Kelly’s POV
I’m standing in front of the sunflower farm. Emily was beside me, silently watching the wind gently blowing the flower petals. After my conversation with Felicia and some argument with Matt, I found myself going here to relax.
Felicia’s mother thinks it was mom’ uncle who had her kidnapped when she was a kid. But I don’t have any access to that part of the past now that Gallian Foster is dead. I should just keep the investigation straight through the path that will lead me to my mom’s murderer. The documents given to me by Attorney Lee were all burned down. I have copies and he doesn’t know about that. The problem is I find it strange that he’s not willing to help me anymore.
“What’s your plan?”
I sighed at Emily’s question. “I don’t know.”
“If you want to end this then you need people who have access to the part of the past that you need to open.”
I shook my head and looked down. “Sara doesn’t want to help and I don’t think Matt will still help.”
“I didn’t know you have a dck of a cousin.”
I chuckled. “You haven’t met Mason.”
“There’s another?” She asked sarcastically and hissed. “That’s awesome! I’d like to see that one to know if I can break his neck.”
A smirk curved in my lips. “His neck’s worth breaking.”
She shot an eyebrow up. “Oh! Worse than Matt Forster, huh?”
“I don’t know but I think Matt Foster is not that bad, Em.”
She scoffed. “Here comes the kind heroine.”
“Emily, I’m just stating what I feel,” I said laughing.
She rolled her eyes. “Whatever! Why don’t we just roam around and check the hacienda you’re going to manage soon?”
“I won’t manage this.”
“What?”
I lifted my face and stared at the wide sunflower plantation. “The Foster’s family business should be given to someone who deserves it.”
“And that someone is perfectly you.”
“Not me,” I answered. “I don’t know who but I’m sure it’s not me. Dad’s company is enough for me. I don’t need the riches, Emily. I’m just doing this because I want to punish the people who’re involved in my mom’s death.”
“And you already have the names, right? You just lack some concrete evidence and witnesses?”
I bit my bottom lip. “Yes. It would be easy for them to get away if I don’t gather more evidence. They’ll just get away.”
“I think that Matt Foster can help, Kelly.”
I looked at Emily. “You think so?”
“Yes,” she smirked. “Just let him investigate on his own. He’s the person closest to Connor and Diane Foster. If the report Attorney Lee gave you was right, then you can find evidence without even risking your life.”
I sighed. “Matt Foster may find the truth, but I don’t think he’ll help me if his parents are really the culprit.”
Emily bit her bottom lip and her eyes twinkled. “Don’t worry about that. What’s the use of my flirting skills?”
My lips parted in awe. “You’ll do that? Wait...he might not believe you if you try to seduce him.”
“It’s not a problem with me, Kelly. Just trust me on this and focus on your own problem. Why don’t you just ask Pierce on a date and tell him everything on one date? I don’t think keeping this is a good thing. Life is short, make use of the chances given to you.”
I shook my head. “I’ll tell him soon, Emily. He’ll get mad at me and I can’t focus on him right now. I want all my attention on him when I tell him the truth. After all the mess...”
“Then the more I need to make a move to help you. Don’t worry and leave Matt Foster to me.”
I smiled at her. “Thank you, Emily. I don’t know what I’d do if you’re not here.”
“At first I only wanted to save your daughter. But now...I don’t think I can let anyone take Snow’s mother away from her. I will use all my resources. I will drain my father’s money. Just make sure that nothing will happen to you and you’ll stay alive until your daughter gets married and builds her own family.”
I smiled, “Of course.”
We went back to the ancestral house after our short talk. We’re going home so I went to the kitchen to find Felicia but I found a different person inside.
Sitting alone on the stool in front of the island counter was Matt. He’s drinking alcohol and he seemed very distracted.
I walked towards him and he immediately lifted his face to look at me. He laughed sarcastically. “Do you think you can make me believe that this family is hiding something hideous? Perhaps mom’s right. You just came to ruin our family.”
I shook my head and smirked at him. “Whatever you want to think, Matt. Whatever can make you sleep at night. But don’t blame me if one day your precious family falls. I want a family too because I lost my parents to a painful and cruel death. I want my daughter to meet my mom’s family. I want my daughter to meet people she can call her second parents. But your precious family doesn’t want us, Matt.”
He glared and clenched his jaws. “Because you’re taking everything away from my family!”
“Did I say I want the company?” I asked with a blank face. He looked shocked but my expression remained stoic. “I never wanted anything from your family, Matt. But your grandmother entrusted me with something she can’t ever leave to your parents. I’m wondering why?”
His eyes darkened even more. “Grandma only believed your mom, Kelly. She just doesn’t like my parents and aunt.”
“Aren’t you even wondering why it’s like that?” I asked. “Aren’t you even wondering why after all these years...your grandmother chose me, the daughter of her favorite daughter? Why did she leave the company and all her properties to me even when she doesn’t know me personally? She trusted me and not your parents. Isn’t it strange?”
“Just get straight to the point, Kelly! I know you know something!”
I smirked. “Didn’t you come here because you want to get away from the mess? You can have your peace here, Matt. I don’t mind if you stay here. This isn’t my home anyway.”
