Kelly’s POV
Because of Mrs. Anderson’s strange plans and Snow’s operation pair me up with Pierce. I was driving my car silently while Pierce was sitting in the passenger seat beside me. I know that he didn’t get his mom’s plan at first but when he noticed it, he immediately sided with them.
“Kelly...”
I glanced at him and realized he’s staring at me. I swallowed hard and bit my bottom lip. I suddenly want to kiss him.
“May I go with you whenever you need to visit your doctor?”
It’s about my pregnancy. Thinking about visiting a doctor while he’s with me makes my heart flutter. I’d want that too.
I smiled. “You don’t need to ask me about that thing.”
He smiled. “Thank you. Uhm... Are you really going? To vacation this weekend?”
“Why not?” I glanced at him. “It’s time for me to unwind.”
“How about your investigation?”
“I want a day or two away from the problem. Why? You don’t wanna invite me?”
“What? Of course, I want you to come. It will make me very happy actually.”
I parked the car in front of his company and looked at him. I smiled. “I’m going. Just tell me the time.”
He nodded and smiled. “Snow likes being with mom and dad. She’ll stay with us for a while, right?”
I stared into his eyes. “For as long as she wants to.”
“Thank you, Kelly.”
“It’s your right.”
“Huh?”
I blinked multiple times as I felt my heart skip a beat. It slipped off my tongue without realizing it. Oh God!
“Uh...She treats you like her f-father. So... I think it’s just right to let her spend time with you and your family.”
He stared into my eyes. “You won’t change your mind with me, right?”
I took a deep breath and slowly shook my head. “No...”
He gently held my hands and caressed it. My heart skipped a beat when he kissed the back of my hands and smiled at me. “Thank you for the ride, Kels. See you...”
I watched him get out of my car while my heart was beating so fast.
I was about to drive off to my company when I spotted a familiar woman looking at my car through the side mirror. It’s Lexi and anger immediately drove me to get out of my car to confront her. However, she suddenly disappeared while I’m getting out.
I balled my fists. That woman will never stop until she gets what she wants. I can’t believe she could do that thing out of desperation. Obviously, she’s planning to get herself pregnant with Pierce’s child but I won’t allow her to get what she wants even if she gets pregnant.
Annoyed, I drove to my company. I wasn’t in the mood when I attended the meeting and after that, I was informed by my assistant, Yara, that I have a visitor waiting for me in my office.
Sara Foster was waiting when I entered my office. This is my father’s company and I didn’t expect that she’d come here again.
“To whom do I owe this visit?” I started as I walked towards my swivel chair and sat there, looking at her face with a blank expression.
She lifted her chin. “I’ll accept your terms.”
The corner of my lips rose. “Hmm. Are you sure?”
She gritted her teeth. “I want a position in my mother’s company, Kelly.”
I crossed my legs and looked at her intently. “I’m expanding the hotel. I want to open a new branch and I want you to manage it.”
Her eyes widened. “What?”
I shook my head, “You don’t want it?”
“Of course, I want it. But why are you trusting me?”
“Simple...” I rested my back on the swivel chair. “I want a big favor, Sara. A big favor for a high position.”
“What do you want?”
Taking advantage of her desperation may seem bad but I don’t have any other intention. I just want to make sure that Connor and Diane can never claim any of the Foster’s property. I will distribute the properties to the people who deserve it.
“Investigate the incident a long time ago. The incident when my mom was abducted.”
Her eyes widened. “What? That was a long time ago, Kelly! How do you expect me to dig on that part of the past? I was so young back then!”
“Yes, but you’re involved in that part of the past, Sara. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure that no one will find out that you’re investigating.”
She looked into my eyes and clenched her jaws. “You are using me.”
I smiled. “I’m not. I just want you to bargain with me, Sara. Don’t worry. The new branch will open soon. All you have to do is conduct an investigation and that’s all.”
“If I fail...will you take the position back?”
“Depends whether you’ll succeed or not.”
She pulled herself up and glared at me. “I will do everything to get that position, Kelly. I will not let you play with me like this.”
“I’m not playing with you, Sara. I want you to help me and I’m paying you for that.
She lifted her chin and gripped her bag. “Give me this month. You’ll get what you want and once I’m done, you will not interfere with how I want to manage the new branch.”
I nodded and smiled. “You can have my word, Aunt Sara.”
She stared at me for a few seconds before she turned her back and walked out of my office. I took a deep sigh after that and started massaging my forehead. I turned my computer on and since I’m not expecting anyone, I was about to start working when the door swung open again.
“Where’s your friend?”
My forehead creased as I lifted my face and saw Matt, looking at me with an annoyed expression.
“What?”
“Your friend, Kelly. I need to talk to her.”
I tilted my head and shot an eyebrow up. “She’s not always home.”
He clenched his jaws. “You’re living with her?”
“Yes.”
He started walking towards me and pressed his palms on my table, staring into my eyes. “Tell her I’m looking for her.”
“Why would I?”
“Because I need to talk to her, Kelly.”
I smirked. “You don’t even wanna help me.”
He looked away and guilt crossed his eyes, I saw it clearly. Something happened. He learned something. Emily’s right.
I intertwined my fingers and rested my elbows on my table. “Tell me, Matt. What happened?”
He looked at me, annoyed. “Nothing happened. Stop suspecting my parents because they know nothing.”
I shot an eyebrow up again and chuckled without humor. “We’re talking about you and Emily, Matt. Why are you involving your parents?”
He swallowed hard and stood straight. He pushed his hands inside the pocket of his pants as he tried so hard to avoid my eyes. “Just tell her that I’m looking for her.”
I watched his back as he left my office. Fish is indeed caught by its mouth, huh? I wonder what he discovered to act so defensive like that.
