Chapter 22. Scumbag! How could you be so heartless!
Bai Xiyi’s composure shattered.
She had been waiting downstairs on an empty stomach, worried that her parents might not handle the situation well and that something bad might happen.
And what did she find?
The family of four was sitting together, happily enjoying dinner!
“Xiyi—why are you back?”
Bai Cheng held a wine glass, his slightly tipsy face still wearing a smile.
But the moment he saw Bai Xiyi, his smile froze.
Beside him, Lin Meizhi was stunned.
She looked at Bai Xiyi at the door, then at Bai Xiyan sitting next to her, and finally at Ye Chen across the table.
Her mind buzzed, completely at a loss.
Bai Xiyan’s eyes flickered away, her smile slowly fading.
Only Ye Chen remained as calm as ever.
“You came at the right time. Haven’t eaten yet, have you? Come join us. I invited you at noon, but you didn’t come.”
She waved her hand, looking at her parents as her expression turned bitter.
“Ye Chen is my husband! Now Bai Xiyan has taken him, and you all don’t even react?”
“Even worse, you’re all laughing and chatting like nothing’s wrong!”
“Do you even see me as your daughter? How can you live with yourselves?”
“Fine! Seems like I’m the only one who doesn’t belong in this family!”
With a loud slam, Bai Xiyi turned and stormed out, her high heels clacking furiously against the floor.
Under the strange gazes of the neighbors, she left in a rage.
Whispers and murmurs reached her ears.
“Tsk, the Bai family’s eldest daughter finally showed up, huh?”
“Honestly, people are hard to figure out. She ruined such a good family.”
“Little Ye is such a good man—rich and polite. He always greets me and offers me cigarettes.”
“Guess her sister has better taste. If the older sister doesn’t want him, the younger sister will!”
Hearing the gossip, Bai Xiyi’s heart shattered even more.
She refused to believe Ye Chen was the only decent man in the world!
Her fury burned hotter.
“Old man, go check on her!”
Bai Cheng started to stand.
But Ye Chen was already up, pressing a hand on his shoulder.
“Dad, stay and relax. I’ll go check. Xiyan, keep Mom and Dad company.”
With that, he grabbed his coat and walked out.
The neighbors greeted him warmly.
“Little Ye, eaten yet?”
“Little Ye, heard you remarried Xiyan. Is it true?”
“Little Ye, why limit yourself? My daughter Keke is pretty great too. Want to consider her?”
Ye Chen awkwardly responded before chasing after Bai Xiyi.
The Ferrari door slammed shut.
Ye Chen stood outside, tapping the window.
“Who asked you to come after me with your fake concern?!”
Ye Chen crossed his arms, speaking calmly.
“I just came to remind you to drive carefully.”
“If you crash and die, the money I gave you in the divorce will go to your parents.”
“And once they pass, that money will end up back in my pocket.”
Despite the warning, his words only made Bai Xiyi choke with rage.
“SCREW YOU! I DON’T NEED YOUR ADVICE!”
“I’LL LIVE WELL JUST TO SPITE YOU! YOU’LL NEVER SEE THAT MONEY AGAIN!”
“And Ye Chen! Don’t think you’re one of a kind! There are plenty of men out there!”
With a furious roar, she started the car and slammed the accelerator.
The Ferrari shot forward, disappearing around the corner.
Ye Chen shook his head and turned back.
Through the rearview mirror, Bai Xiyi watched his retreating figure, grinding her teeth.
“How could you be so heartless?!”
Tears spilled from her eyes, but she wiped them away fiercely.
Ye Chen’s words had forced her to stay rational, preventing her from spiraling into reckless rage.
Though she still drove fast, she didn’t lose control.
Ye Chen opened the door.
Three pairs of eyes turned to him.
Ye Chen waved a hand. “She’s fine. She drove off. Let her cool down.”
Bai Cheng frowned. “She won’t do anything stupid, will she?”
Ye Chen shook his head. “Don’t worry. No way.”
“I told her if something happens to her, the divorce money I gave her goes to you two.”
“And whatever’s left after you pass will go to Xiyan.”
“Knowing her, she’ll make sure to stay alive just to spite me.”
The couple’s eyelids twitched.
Something about his logic felt off, but they couldn’t argue.
Bai Xiyan covered her mouth, giggling.
“Hehe—Mom, Dad, you know how Sister is.”
“With Brother Chen provoking her like that, she won’t do anything reckless.”
“She’ll live well and spend every penny.”
The couple had no words.
Bai Cheng sighed and raised his glass.
“Come on, A’Chen, drink with me!”
Ye Chen clinked his glass against his.
“Dad, this one’s for you.”
Bai Cheng’s eyes grew hazy.
Without Bai Xiyi around, he felt much more at ease—no one scolded him for drinking now.
Back when Bai Xiyi was here, Ye Chen rarely drank.
Bai Cheng poured more.
Ye Chen chuckled. “Sure. Tonight, I’ll drink until you’re happy.”
Father- and son-in-law clinked glasses again and again, the mood growing livelier.
Bai Xiyan rested her chin on her hands, gazing at Ye Chen with tender admiration.
Lin Meizhi watched her and finally understood why Ye Chen had refused to remarry Bai Xiyi and instead married Bai Xiyan without hesitation.
They all loved gentle women .
Bai Cheng was thoroughly drunk, slinging an arm around Ye Chen.
“A’Chen, as a father, I’ll be honest—if this were any other situation, I’d want to stab you!”
“I spent years raising two daughters, and you went and ruined them both!”
“But as your brother now, I congratulate you! And I respect you!”
Listening to his drunken rambling, Ye Chen didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Lin Meizhi, however, was grinding her teeth.
“Oh, this old fool! ‘Respect,’ huh? Calling him ‘brother,’ huh?”
“I’m recording this. You better explain yourself tomorrow, or you’re in trouble!”
Bai Xiyan covered her mouth, giggling softly.
