'Speaking of sabotaging and selling insider secrets,' Logan thought, perking up. 'If the investigation team digs up more crimes committed by Harold, they'll be added to his sentence as well.'
'Which could mean more compensation from the government,' he smiled.
Sending a quick message to Edric, Logan got his dinner delivered to his room in no time.
Logan leaned back to look at a projection of the news while eating a variety of beast meat and vegetables.
'Seems like California is under siege again,' Logan thought, biting down on a piece of duck meat.
Looking at the water creatures crawling out of the water, Logan sighed. ''Any land connected to the oceans tend to get attacked often.''
''Thankfully, this building is located in Denver,'' he muttered. ''At least a thousand miles away from any ocean.''
Its location had been chosen strategically, right in the center of the United States. It avoided the usual damage from water creature attacks, and its location gave equal access to people from all parts of the country.
'But that isn't the only thing,' Logan thought. 'One of our three S-rank dungeons is located only a hundred miles away from here.'
The Rocky Mountain dungeon was directly tied to the Mercer family's success in the past. The unique ice and wind creatures that had based themselves inside that dungeon had provided many extremely rare resources.
Logan looked at the news until he suddenly saw a message from Silas pop up.
''What's this?'' Logan muttered, swiping the news off the hologram.
Reading through the message, a smile formed on Logan's face.
'He's scheduled an F-rank dungeon for me in four days,' Logan thought, satisfied.
Thanking Silas, Logan turned the hologram off and finished his dinner.
''Let's get some more exercise in before going to bed,'' he said, standing up.
Four days passed rapidly, filled with training, paperwork, and silence.
Waking up at 6 AM, Logan quickly got dressed.
Opening his door, Logan found Silas leaning against a wall, waiting on him.
''You ready to go?'' Silas asked, looking at his watch.
''Yes,'' Logan nodded.
''Alright, follow me,'' Silas nodded.
Having taken an elevator to the top floor, Logan stepped out onto a massive rooftop.
Behind him stood a massive flying shuttle in a pitch black color.
"Wow," Logan muttered, eyes widening as he took in the sheer size of it. It had to be at least half the length of a football field.
''The Mercer Family centerpiece,'' Silas said, pressing a few buttons on his watch. ''Your father had this built about fifteen years ago.''
Slowly, a platform lowered from the shuttle's hatch.
"Looks expensive," Logan said, glancing at the sleek design.
''It was,'' Silas laughed as he walked onto the platform. ''He hired half the top-tier engineers in the country just to make the damn thing look good."
Logan stepped onto the platform, glancing around as it slowly rose to the shuttle.
'It certainly looks amazing,' Logan thought, nodding.
''I can see why he would want this made,'' Logan said, looking back at Silas.
''It's a fine piece of art, isn't it?'' Silas said, grinning.
Finally reaching the top, Logan stared in amazement at the design on the inside of the ship.
The floor was smooth and dark, polished enough to reflect the glow from the lights above. Bright white panels, powered by mana stones, lit up the ceiling and the walls below. The walls were made of sleek metal, subtly curving the farther they extended.
In the center stood a long glass table surrounded by wide leather seats that adjusted at a touch. On the side, a built-in bar with bottles of rare drinks and liquids. A small lounge area sat in the corner, with a wide couch and a floating screen already displaying the weather at their destination.
"...This is ridiculous," Logan muttered, glancing around in disbelief.
Silas grinned. "Welcome to the Mercer family flagship."
The ship's interior was even more luxurious than the suite he'd stayed in over the past few weeks.
"It's basically a luxury hotel, lab, and warship at the same time," Silas added, taking a seat and tapping the armrest to bring up a display. "Fully shielded, built-in training room, and even a regeneration pod."
Logan nodded, still taking it all in.
''The private rooms are in the back,'' Silas said, pointing behind him. ''If you want to relax or sleep some more, that's where you should go.''
Looking at the long hallway leading to the back, Logan nodded.
''How long will the flight be?'' Logan asked, turning back to Silas.
''Only around an hour,'' he immediately answered.
''I'll go enjoy the view then,'' Logan said, making his way over to the private rooms in the back.
Finding a room with his name on it, he entered. Inside, his glaive and a set of armor were laid out beside a luxurious queen-sized bed.
Sitting down on a couch in front of a massive glass pane, Logan waited patiently for the liftoff.
'I wonder how it feels,' he thought, never having flown before.
A few minutes passed when Logan felt movement under his feet. Slowly, the shuttle lifted off the ground.
Feeling a funny sensation in his stomach, Logan watched as the city beneath him continued getting smaller and smaller. Then, the shuttle surged forward, and the landscape vanished beneath him in seconds.
Like that, an hour passed until the shuttle slowed down again.
'This is where the dungeon is located,' Logan thought, glancing down at the bustling town surrounding the landing area.
Logan knew the dungeon was owned by the Mercer family, he just hadn't expected there to be an entire town surrounding the dungeon.
'It makes sense though,' Logan thought. 'On normal days, the dungeon is open for regular hunters and smaller guilds to clear.'
Naturally, it wasn't free for people to do so.
Regular hunters need a membership and give up a share of their profits, while small guilds must pay an entry fee while also giving up some of their profits.
'In the end it's just free labor for us,' Logan thought, shaking his head. 'Such a shame the government only really allows that for F and E-ranked dungeons.'
The regulations surrounding dungeons were extremely complex, filled with exceptions and inconsistencies.
