As the car sped towards little Chenxi, Yan Xinxin’s heart pounded wildly. She dared not imagine what would happen next, her legs moving instinctively as she ran towards the tiny figure!
Yan Xinxin spread out her arms without a second thought, shielding little Chenxi with her body.
Seated in the car, Mo Chuxi witnessed this scene unfold, his peach-pink lips twisting as he shouted in terror.
But the very thing he feared the most still happened!
With a resounding "bang," Mo Chuxi felt as though a massive stone had smashed down onto his heart.
No physical wound, yet the pain was unbearable!
"Look over there! Something’s happened!"
"That car looks like it hit a mother and daughter!"
"Oh my God! There’s so much blood!"
As the murmurs from nearby reached his ears, Mo Chuxi felt as though his heartbeat had fallen into an abyss.
He quickly shoved his way through the crowd and saw Yan Xinxin and little Chenxi lying unconscious on the ground, blood pooling under them. An unprecedented sense of terror and dread surged through his entire body!
Mo Chuxi strode forward in large steps. Kneeling beside Yan Xinxin, he scooped her up without hesitation.
Yan Xinxin struggled to crack open her eyes, faintly sensing the piercing summer sunlight and glimpsing an anxious and panic-stricken face above her...
In her dazed state, Yan Xinxin felt as though she had fallen into a long and surreal dream.
In the dream, little Chenxi walked alongside her. But suddenly, she let go of her hand, the tiny figure running farther and farther away until disappearing from her sight...
"Little Xinxin, Little Xinxin, wake up!"
Her son’s worried cries repeated incessantly by her ear. Yan Xinxin jolted awake, her hazy vision taking in a white hospital ceiling.
"Little Xinxin, you’re finally awake! That’s so great! I’m going to tell Daddy Chuxi!"
Still not entirely alert, Yan Xinxin heard her son’s excited voice as his small, handsome figure bolted out of the hospital room.
She was in a hospital.
Yan Xinxin suddenly awoke fully, recalling the events before she lost consciousness.
She attempted to sit up, but a sharp soreness in her lower back stopped her.
Mo Chuxi’s voice came from the doorway, halting her movements. Yan Xinxin raised her gaze to see the man striding towards her, his eyebrows furrowed with worry.
Seeing her awake, he exhaled in relief, though his brows remained tightly knit.
"Yan Xinxin, who do you think you are? Superman? Using your body as a shield—have you ever thought about the possibility of getting hurt?"
Though his words carried concern, his tone sounded like scolding.
Yan Xinxin raised her hand to touch her head, furrowing her brows as she looked up at him.
"Chenxi... how is she? Is she at this hospital too? I want to see her..."
"Yan Xinxin, stay in bed!"
When he saw Yan Xinxin trying to get up, Mo Chuxi stepped forward to stop her, firmly pushing her back onto the bed and pulling the blanket over her.
"Do you even know what condition you’re in right now? And yet you still dare to move around?"
At his words, Yan Xinxin’s pupils contracted as her hand reflexively moved to her stomach.
Watching her, Mo Chuxi spoke coldly.
"Maybe I’ve misjudged you. Yan Xinxin, you clearly don’t care about the child in your womb. That’s why you didn’t hesitate to put yourself and the baby in danger by doing such risky things. Yan Xinxin, if the child is gone... will you even grieve?"
