Kay Forrest always took Jane Quinlan to luxurious places.
So when Kay took her to the city’s most exclusive private club, the Noble Gate Winery, she didn’t find it particularly special.
As he held her shoulder and entered the private room, there was a man and a woman inside.
The man was holding the woman’s waist, looking very sweet together.
Jane was captivated by the pair as soon as she entered.
The man was unbelievably handsome, and the woman seemed to have stepped out of a painting.
She was truly amazed that there were people so well-matched in this world.
Upon seeing Kay and Jane, the woman’s gaze fell directly on Jane. She smiled softly, "You’re late, you know."
Kay guided Jane naturally to sit on the woman’s left side, "I was busy."
The man smiled without saying a word, and the woman said, "Hey, aren’t you going to introduce us? You’ll make your companion feel awkward this way."
Kay looked at Jane and said, "Let me introduce you, this is Hunter Warren, and this is Faye Townsend.
Faye and I grew up together, we’re childhood friends."
Jane was taken aback, and her gaze at Hunter and Faye became more reserved.
Faye pursed her lips and smiled gently, "Hello, Jane."
"Miss Townsend knows my name?"
Faye nodded, "Yes, Forrest has mentioned you to me many times.
I was very curious about what kind of girl you are to make Forrest so devoted.
I’m finally meeting you today, it’s a pleasure to meet you."
"Miss Townsend, I’m very pleased to meet you too."
Kay chuckled, "That’s not really what’s in her heart."
Jane glared at him, "Hey, don’t talk nonsense."
"Should I speak your mind instead?"
He then looked at Faye and said, "This girl, she’s quite two-faced.
She says she’s happy to meet you, but in her heart, she probably thinks she’s not in the same world as you and isn’t fit to be friends."
Jane turned to look at Kay, not a word was wrong; that’s exactly what she thought.
Actually, Kay really understands her.
"Jane, don’t overthink it. We’re not as scary as you imagine.
We don’t bite. If I were that hard to get along with, I wouldn’t have such a good relationship with Forrest."
Faye seemed to be trying to make Jane relax and deliberately sold herself short.
She pointed to Hunter, "This guy Hunter is a bit rigid, but he’s great with friends I approve of, you can be totally at ease about that."
Hunter, hearing this, looked at her affectionately and smiled.
With Faye speaking so candidly, Jane felt embarrassed, "Sorry, Miss Townsend.
I just think...the environment I grew up in is different from yours, and I might not understand what you’re talking about here."
"That only proves you don’t understand human language," Kay looked at her, "I speak human when I’m with Faye too."
Faye playfully tapped Kay on the shoulder, "Can’t you speak more gently?"
"If I could be gentle, you would have been smitten with me long ago, and Hunter wouldn’t stand a chance."
Their conversation made Jane feel much more relaxed.
Because Kay’s tone was familiar to her, it put her at ease.
Besides, it was the first time she realized that Kay wasn’t just snarky with her.
He and Miss Townsend were good friends, so their conversation was full of sparring too.
"Faye and I have fate; it doesn’t have much to do with you," Hunter retorted.
Kay glared at him and said to Faye, "See, your man is glaring at me."
"Serves you right, I only see you as deserving to be glared at, go away, let me chat with Jane for a bit."
Kay whispered in Faye’s ear, "You’re not just looking to chat; you’re looking for gossip to pass on to my dad, right?"
"Do you still need me to move?"
Kay stood up and moved over to Hunter’s side, "Come on, even though we annoy each other, let’s have a drink together."
Faye watched as the two men went off to drink, she got up and moved next to Jane, handing her a glass of red wine.
Jane took it with both hands, but Faye pulled the glass back slightly, leaving Jane’s hands empty, prompting Jane to look at Faye.
Faye smiled, "Jane, I’m not your superior, nor have I ever paid you a salary, and none of my money has been shared with you.
We only became friends because of Forrest.
You don’t owe me anything; we are equals.
I hope you won’t use that respectful attitude with me and treat me like you would a normal friend, okay?"
