Jane Quinlan had finished reading and organizing both hefty files by 8:30 pm.
About fifteen minutes earlier, Kay Forrest had called her.
Because he had been delayed the entire day, he would have to work overtime into the late night.
He wanted her to go home first.
But the thought of being alone at home as well.
She simply opened the rule book and began to memorize it anew.
Thinking about the humiliation she had suffered at Annie’s hands today.
She secretly vowed that wherever she fell, she would get back up from there.
She absolutely would not surrender so easily.
She took a deep breath, and in such a quiet environment, memorizing seemed unusually quick.
Jane had already memorized these contents; what she needed now was to remember the details of each clause fluently.
She used a self-testing method to familiarize herself with it all.
By after ten o’clock, her eyelids were already beginning to droop.
After reciting the first thirty items until they were second nature, she decided to rest her head on the desk for a little while.
But unexpectedly, with that rest, she really fell asleep.
The sound of footsteps clicked in the office.
Jane didn’t hear it at all.
When Nolan Moore left Evie Larkin’s place, he inexplicably felt like checking the office.
Once he had gone upstairs, he discovered that the lights in the office were still on.
He had a feeling that Jane must still be inside.
Indeed, as expected, there she was, sound asleep with her head down on the desk.
He leaned closer to see the edge of the materials sticking out from under her arm.

He wondered if she got scolded today because of this?
The air conditioning in the office had long been turned off, and the air was cool.
She was only wearing a sweater, with her coat draped over the chair.
He casually picked up her coat and covered her with it.
She shifted her head, giving Nolan quite a start; he turned to leave but then saw she was still asleep.
He exhaled; this woman, even in her sleep, was a source of worry.
When he had come upstairs, he saw Kay’s car was still downstairs.
It seemed she was waiting for him.
After watching her for a moment, Nolan turned and left first.
He didn’t actually know what he was coming back to verify.
He just came back anyway.
The first time he saw her tears today, he felt an inexplicable surge of panic.
Even though he hadn’t bullied her, he just felt very guilty.
It seems he needed to have a good talk with Annie.
When Jane’s phone suddenly began to shriek, she was genuinely startled.
She sat up and slid the phone open to her ear.
"It’s me, why did you fall asleep?"
Jane breathed a sigh of relief, mumbled uh-huh in confusion, and laid her head back on the desk, "Are you finished with your work?"
Jane curled her lips: "No, I fell asleep anyway, so it’s not like I felt the wait."
"Come downstairs, I’ll take you out for a late-night snack."
"Uhm... Why don’t you come pick me up? I’m the only one left in this big office, I’m a bit scared."
Kay Forrest laughed without words, it turns out his girlfriend also had her little fears.
"Alright, wait for me, two minutes."
Jane hung up the phone and stuffed the wretched rules and regulations into her bag.
She turned to grab her coat and was surprised to find it had magically ended up on her shoulders at some unknown point.
Come on, she’s not a tender young thing anymore, but her memory is still good.
She had clearly left her coat on the back of the chair before, how could it...
Could it be, there’s a ghost in the office?
This thought made her shiver after looking around.
Hearing footsteps in the hallway, she felt even more terrified.
Just as she was about to scream, she heard Kay’s voice outside: "Jane?"
Jane ran out into the corridor and threw herself straight into Kay Forrest’s arms.
Kay, seeing her exaggerated reaction, couldn’t help but laugh: "What’s the matter?"
"It’s so strange, my clothes... somehow got on me without knowing when, there’s not... something unclean in here, is there?"
Kay Forrest speechlessly said: "What are you thinking.
This building has never had any accidents since it was constructed.
Plus, the feng shui here is as good as can be, not to attract evil spirits, relax."
Wrapping his arm around her shoulder, he led her outside, "If you’re afraid next time, don’t wait for me here.
