This is a constitution saving throw. If failed, within a few hours, the target bitten by a Flying Head Monster will first lose all their hair, their ears gradually transforming into leathery wings, tendrils extending from the chin and scalp, teeth lengthening into fangs until finally, the victim dies, the head separating from the body, becoming another Flying Head Monster.
Records at the Night Watch Headquarters have noted this type of creature. It is considered a relatively common kind of Evil Object, and those bitten by them get poisoned.
However, it’s unusual to see so many Flying Head Monsters in the Real Plane. This swarm of grotesque heads, numbering in the dozens, typically suggests the presence of a more powerful Otherworldly Creature.
A swooshing sound ripples through the air.
Shawn saw the sinister creature flying in the sky. It appeared like a twisted starfish, with five arms that each sprouted a neck, topped with bald heads. These ugly heads were adorned with scales, their eyes ablaze with green flames, while gray-white wings unfurled from their bodies, circling in the air before quickly commanding a swarm of Flying Head Monsters to leave.
Otherworldly Creature.
Distant Realm is the world of origin for these Otherworldly Creatures. They are all grotesquely twisted life forms that defy common biological knowledge, and any such strange and abnormal life form can be considered part of the Otherworldly Creature race.
This one is truly unbeatable.
To deal with the sinister creature, at least a whole team of veteran Night Watchers is needed, along with one or two Sealed Objects. They are indeed formidable opponents. (Challenge Level 10 or above)
Fortunately, these Flying Head Monsters did not notice Shawn, and the sinister creature, along with the swarm of Flying Head Monsters, left towards the direction of the swamp.
Roughly half an hour later.
In the distance, ghostly fires suddenly began to flicker, followed by a hunched and towering silhouette emerging, approximately two meters tall. It ambled along the plain’s grasslands, with clusters of ghostly fires drifting behind it, and faint sounds of insects gnawing on something could be heard.
——Night Hag [Evil Object].
This hunched Night Hag was shepherding Soul Worms. They serve some powerful Evil Objects, those that delight in devouring souls. Night Hags can collect wandering souls and, using a unique ’shepherding ritual’, transform the collected souls into a kind of grotesque and fierce worm.
That was Shawn’s first job at the time, clearing those hideous worms with human faces.
The Night Hag did not approach this side.
This area seems to have a unique ecological balance; neither the Flying Head Monsters nor the sinister creature came over, and the Night Hag also only shepherded around without even disturbing the Stone Blind Barbarians’ crude ’farmland.’
Hiss hiss hiss.
A dense swarm of insects appeared at the foot of the hillside, each bearing a menacing human face, about twenty to thirty centimeters long, and creeping at a decent speed. The Night Hag is a very patient ’Shepherd,’ collecting wandering ghostly fires while checking the growth conditions of the Soul Worms.
If there are any not growing well, specifically those without a human face, it will lift its black hood to reveal a mouth brimming with sharp, fine teeth, greedily and joyfully gnawing, consuming those unqualified Soul Worms.
These are their snacks.
In the Bizarre Realm’s wilderness at night, people usually do not attack the shepherding Night Hags and Crone Witches, for they are merely ’Shepherds,’ with even more terrifying existences behind them.
Nevertheless, well-shepherded Soul Worms hold immense allure for any creature craving to devour souls. Occasionally, some brazen Evil Objects may strike.
The Night Hag’s Shepherd’s Staff is a very powerful Curious Staff, with considerable combat ability. They rarely enter the Real Plane and possess the ability for cross-plane movement, only found in places like the Bizarre Realm, Spirit Realm, Shadow Plane, etc.
"All are formidable foes."
Shawn should currently be in a safe zone, though, of course, this safe zone harbors another dangerous creature behind its security, which just hasn’t discovered Shawn yet.
The Night Hag’s silhouette doesn’t linger; they will shepherd until dawn, collecting wandering souls along the way before finally leaving the Real Plane again.
In the Bizarre Realm, there is no Netherworld, no concept of souls entering the Netherworld. For ordinary humans, souls are consumables and food after death.
In the darkness.
A strange, fist-sized green eyeball floated out, directly flying near the Stone Blind Barbarians’ den, checking on its livestock, then slowly circled its territory.
——Eye of the Otherworldly Creature!
Shawn’s pupils slightly contracted as he caught sight of the green eyeball floating at the entrance of the den, dragging a ten-centimeter long eye stem, hovering a meter above the ground, making a slow loop with its flight.
This is part of some creature’s body, allowing its auxiliary eye to go out and surveil its territory.
Its main body is likely in the cave behind.
Since the detached eye cannot stray too far from the main body, this green eyeball, after surveying the Stone Blind Barbarians’ den, started drifting towards Shawn’s direction. Following its hovering flight path, it seemed almost certain to pass by Shawn’s hiding spot.
"Damn it! This kind of Eye of the Otherworldly Creature seems capable of seeing through Invisibility!"
