Right after Ichimaru Gin released his Bankai, everything around him seemed moments away from being cleaved apart by his Zanpakutō.
"Stop it at once! Captain Ichimaru, Captain Shiraha, stand down!"
Two voices cut sharply through the chaos.
Kyoraku Shunsui appeared in front of Gin, his paired blades—one long, one short—intercepting the deadly thrust. Reiatsu burst from his frame, pressing down on Gin with suffocating weight, locking his movements in place. Alone, Shunsui's pressure would not have been enough. Yet with forty times gravity still binding Gin, Shiraha's Reiatsu smothering him, and Shunsui adding his spiritual force, even Gin's Bankai could not overcome the combined restraint.
Unohana Retsu's calm voice followed. She stepped forward, hands raised as a four-sided crystalline shield formed before her, intercepting the purple wave Shiraha had released.
The impact struck like thunder.
Fractures spiderwebbed across the barrier before it splintered apart into spirit particles and dissolved into the air. The wave's strength had diminished, but it still surged forward, its destructive force unabated, rushing straight for Unohana.
Unohana's right hand traced the air, conjuring a massive translucent wall. The purple energy slammed against it, detonating in an ear-splitting boom before finally dispersing. The wall groaned under the strain, then cracked, fading away.
Shunsui's tone hardened, uncharacteristically sharp. "Captain Ichimaru, Captain Shiraha—what are you two doing unleashing your Zanpakutō in Seireitei? And you, Gin… using Bankai here of all places?"
Gin chuckled softly, eyes half-lidded, voice dripping with feigned fear. "Ah, Captain Commander's little watchdogs… what choice did I have? Without Bankai, I'd be dead by Captain Shiraha's hand."
Before Shunsui could retort, his gaze snapped past Gin. The walls flanking Baidaomon had vanished, reduced to nothing, as if they had never existed.
His eyes widened. "Shiraha… did you destroy the Hakudōmon?"
Baidaomon, a gate forged of murderous stone that no spiritual attack had ever breached, was gone.
Shiraha scratched his cheek, feigning mild embarrassment. "Yes, Captain Shunsui."
In truth, the strike had given him a clear measure. His mantra technique had reached perfection, powerful enough to threaten even a senior captain like Gin. But against Unohana Retsu—the captain whose strength was second only to Yamamoto and Aizen—the difference was clear. With nothing but a barrier spell and a high-level Bakudō, she had deflected his most destructive attack without once drawing her blade. The gap between them was undeniable.
Shiraha slowly eased his stance, withdrawing the crushing gravity, suppressing his Reiatsu, and sliding his blade back into its sheath.
Gin did the same, releasing his Bankai and re-sheathing Shinsō with a light smile.
"Shiraha," Shunsui said, his tone now carrying a teasing lilt, "if old man Yama learns you've destroyed Baidaomon, you'll be punished for sure. Best steel yourself. Though…" he smirked and gave a thumbs up, "I can't deny you did what I've always wanted to do myself."
Unohana's cough cut through the tension. "Ahem. Captain Ichimaru, Captain Shiraha… why are the two of you fighting in the heart of Seireitei?"
Gin's smile widened, hands resting lightly atop his hilt. "Well, Captain Unohana, you'd best ask Captain Shiraha. After all, the guards at Baidaomon—Sidanfang included—were defeated, their lock and Soul Sleep broken. Surely Captain Shiraha knows something about that."
His words, laced with insinuation, sent a subtle chill into the air. Both Unohana and Shunsui turned their eyes toward Shiraha, waiting.
"I only wanted to capture those intruders," Shiraha replied smoothly. "But Captain Ichimaru intentionally let them escape. The surrounding squad members can attest to it. That's why I intended to detain Captain Ichimaru and take him before the Head Captain."
Shunsui's expression grew weary as he rubbed his temple. This was already a tangle. On instinct, his sympathies leaned toward Shiraha—captain of the Seventh Division, heir of the Kuchiki noble house. There was no logical reason to suspect him of collusion.
Unohana's smile remained soft, but her words were firm. "The Captain-Commander has already summoned a meeting of all captains and vice-captains. You will both explain yourselves there."
"Captain Ichimaru," Shiraha added lightly, "I'll report truthfully to the Captain-Commander what you did just now."
"Please do," Gin answered, unfazed, his tone airy as ever. With that, his body blurred and vanished with Shunpo.
Shiraha shook his head, then turned and left alongside Shunsui and Unohana.
Meanwhile, on the western outskirts of Rukongai's First District, Kurosaki Ichigo and his companions finally arrived at their destination.
Within the Shiba estate, Yoruichi led them into a wide, open room. A woman sat on a carpet inside—her figure voluptuous, long black hair tied into two thick strands, and her clothing strikingly bold. She wore a long white dress slit high on the legs, a tattoo of the character "空" etched on her left arm, and a mechanical prosthetic for her right, which currently held a pipe. A short blade rested at her back.
This was Shiba Kūkaku, head of the fallen Shiba clan, sister to the late Kaien Shiba.
"Yo," she greeted with a sly grin, smoke curling from her pipe. "Long time no see, Yoruichi."
Ichigo and the others froze, eyes wide. "Wait… Shiba Kūkaku is… a woman?!"
Yoruichi, still in her cat form, flicked her tail with irritation. "Did I ever say otherwise?"

"Actually, Kūkaku," Yoruichi began, "I came here today because I need your help. These kids must enter Seireitei, and for that, we'll need the Flower Crane Cannon."
Kūkaku listened quietly as Yoruichi explained their situation.
Finally, she exhaled a puff of smoke, lips curving into a mischievous smile. "I get the picture. But I have one condition—I don't trust these brats. One of my subordinates will accompany you. Come with me, I'll show you my masterpiece, the Flower Crane Cannon."
With that, she turned, pipe in hand, and strode confidently out of the room, the weight of her presence undeniable.
