Bleach: The Template System Chose Me, The Forgotten Kuchiki Chapter 162

The voice faded along with Chōjirō Sasakibe's presence, and the oppressive Reiatsu hanging in the sky finally dissipated.

"Huh? Why's old man Yamamoto calling a captains' meeting so soon? I thought we'd have at least a few days of rest." Kyoraku Shunsui tilted his hat lazily, his tone half-complaint, half-sigh.

After such a major upheaval in the Seireitei, he had assumed the Gotei 13 would take time to recover. Teams were still reeling from the chaos, morale was low, and the divisions needed time to stabilize before any formal judgment.

Jūshirō Ukitake remained silent, his brow furrowed in quiet thought.

Noticing his unease through Observation Haki, Shiraha smiled faintly. "Captain Ukitake, don't worry too much. I doubt Captain-Commander Yamamoto will be too harsh on Kurosaki Ichigo and his group. In a way, if they hadn't invaded the Soul Society, Aizen and the others might never have been exposed."

Ukitake shook his head. "I'm not worried about them. I'm worried about you." His gaze settled on Shiraha. "You intervened in Rukia's execution without reporting to the Captain-Commander. He's bound to hold you accountable."

Shiraha's intentions had been noble, yes. But knowing Yamamoto Genryūsai as long as he had, Ukitake understood how dangerous such defiance could be. Sabotaging the Sōkyoku's execution without authorization was a direct challenge to the authority of the Gotei 13.

The sudden captain's meeting, Ukitake realized, wasn't merely about Rukia's case—it was also about Shiraha.

"Captain Ukitake," Shiraha said calmly, "I believe the Captain-Commander won't punish me too severely."

"I hope you're right," Ukitake replied with a forced smile.

"Well then," Kyoraku said, standing up from his futon and stretching. "Looks like we'll have to save the sake for another time. Come on, Jūshirō, Shiraha—let's go pay our respects to old man Yamamoto."

"Captain," Qingyin asked softly, her eyes uneasy, "Rukia won't be executed anymore, right?"

"Don't worry, Qingyin," Ukitake replied with his usual gentle smile. "The main purpose of this meeting is for the captains to discuss everything that's happened. I doubt Rukia will face any severe punishment now."

Kyoraku opened the sliding door and stepped out first, followed by Ukitake and Shiraha, who walked side by side toward the First Division headquarters. Behind them, Nanao Ise, Sentarō Kotsubaki, and Qingyin remained. Vice-captains and lower officers weren't permitted to attend captain meetings.

As the three captains made their way through the quiet streets of Seireitei, Shiraha used Observation Haki to observe the surroundings. Patrols had tightened; though the state of emergency had eased, Shinigami still moved in pairs through every district, their vigilance visible in the air itself.

"Shiraha," Kyoraku said with a grin, "there are three captain seats vacant now. Knowing old man Yamamoto, I wouldn't be surprised if he transfers Komamura from your Seventh Division."

Shiraha chuckled. "That's fine. Komamura-taichō's strength is solid enough, and with three divisions left without captains, he'd be the perfect fit. It'd also give Kira and Hinamori a chance to step up as vice-captains. Both have potential."

"Oh? I thought you'd be a little reluctant to lose Komamura." Kyoraku smiled in mild surprise.

Ukitake sighed softly. "The three of us finally get to attend a captains' meeting together. But... with everything that's happened, it won't be the same."

He rarely attended meetings due to his fragile health, avoiding them unless absolutely necessary. But this time, he couldn't stay away. The Thirteen Court Guard Squads had lost three captains at once.

"Captain Ukitake," Shiraha said, "you shouldn't dwell on it. Losing three captains at once may weaken the Gotei 13 for now, but in the long run, Aizen, Ichimaru, and Tōsen's betrayal was inevitable. Better now than later."

Kyoraku nodded in agreement. "You've got a good heart, Jūshirō, but even you must see it—Aizen isn't the same man you once knew."

He gave Ukitake's shoulder a reassuring pat. He could understand the man's silence. To lose a comrade you'd trusted for over a century—to learn that person had been deceiving you all along—wasn't something anyone recovered from quickly.

Still, Ukitake was strong. He'd find his balance again.

As they walked, the three captains drew quiet nods from the Shinigami they passed. Patrol members straightened up and saluted as they moved through the corridors, surprised to see three captains walking together. Shiraha nodded back with a faint smile.

After fifteen minutes, they arrived at the First Division barracks. A member of the division led them through the hallways until they reached the great meeting chamber.

Just as they stepped inside, another figure entered from the opposite corridor—Hitsugaya Tōshirō, the Tenth Division Captain, his body still wrapped in fresh bandages.

"Ah, Captain Hitsugaya," Kyoraku called out, half amused, "shouldn't you still be resting? You don't look fully healed."

"I'm fine," Hitsugaya replied curtly. "Captain Unohana's treatment was more than enough."

"Still as stubborn as ever," Ukitake said with a gentle laugh.

Hitsugaya's expression didn't change as he brushed past them and entered the hall first.

Kyoraku and Ukitake exchanged a knowing look and sighed. Shiraha followed them in.

Inside, nearly every captain was already in attendance. The tension in the air was unmistakable. Only one presence was still missing—the Captain-Commander himself.

As Shiraha, Kyoraku, and Ukitake took their places among the ranks of the Gotei 13, the low murmur in the chamber fell silent.

The judgment meeting was about to begin.
