Born In Ashes: The Enigma Chapter 209

"I am not embarrassed to say it. With your current strength, I honestly don’t believe Luo Bingqing and I would be able to defeat you if you suddenly turned against us."

Azrael looked at Elyara for a few seconds before slowly shaking his head.

"What kind of person do you think I am?"

Elyara thought for a moment before answering honestly.

"I don’t know much about you. But from what I can sense, it seems you’re someone who wouldn’t hesitate to kill hundreds of people if it meant achieving your goal."

Azrael raised an eyebrow in mild surprise at her words, then nodded.

"I can’t say you are wrong," He admitted, "But you’re not entirely right, either. I can kill hundreds of people to achieve my goal, but it depends on the kind of people they are. If they’re completely unrelated to me, I would behead them without blinking an eye. However, if the people in question are connected to me in some way, as long as they don’t act against me, I will never harm them, no matter what."

Elyara narrowed her eyes slightly.

"You mean to say that since we’re teammates, you wouldn’t harm us?"

Azrael looked up at the dark sky for a moment before speaking softly.

"To me, the word teammate holds a very special meaning..."

The image of the people of Dawn Breakers briefly flashed through his mind.

"As long as you are my teammate and you don’t act against me, I will do my best to protect you."

Elyara studied Azrael for a few seconds, and through her Trait she sensed the sincerity in his words.

Realizing he wasn’t lying, she let out a quiet sigh of relief and allowed a faint smile to form on her lips.

"I am relieved to hear that."

Azrael glanced at her from the corner of his eye, and suddenly a playful smile curved across his face.

"You were afraid that I would turn against you and Luo Bingqing because of the treasures in the core area of the ruins. But have you forgotten, according to our agreement, half of everything you two find here belongs to me?" Get full chapters from novel·fire.net

Elyara’s body stiffened at his words.

"There is no reason for me to turn against you," Azrael continued. "As long as you keep to our agreement, I’ll still get what I want, even if you find those treasures before I do."

For a moment, a sour expression crossed Elyara’s face and she muttered under her breath,

"Damn it, I completely forgot about that."

Azrael shook his head at her quiet curse, unconcerned. Thanks to his Traits, he could sense that although she was cursing, she wasn’t truly upset.

Elyara had already reached Level 22 and was only three levels away from the peak of the Class Rank.

Azrael was still undecided about whether to buy another small fragment of a Rule Stone. But even if he chose not to, he knew that with their talent, it wouldn’t take long for Luo Bingqing and Elyara to reach the Epic level.

He himself was at Level 21, and because his second consciousness cultivated his source core ceaselessly, he was confident that despite his core requiring far more energy than theirs to level up, he could still reach the Epic level before them.

Elyara looked at Azrael, who was wearing a faint smile, and sighed softly.

"I won’t go back on our agreement. Once we leave the ruins, you can take fifty percent of the items I obtain."

Azrael raised an eyebrow at her words.

"You speak as if you’re certain it will be us who claim the treasures in the core area, not the security forces or the Transcendent Organization."

Elyara didn’t answer directly. Instead, she countered with her own question.

"So you are not confident about competing against the Transcendent Organization and the security forces?"

Azrael simply shook his head and said nothing.

For him, uncovering the mystery behind the sound of the rattling chains in his mind was of far greater importance. Whether it was the Transcendent Organization or the security forces, if they tried to obstruct him, he would simply remove them from his path.

"By the way, aren’t you worried about that Legend-level warrior?" Elyara asked suddenly, curiosity flickering in her voice.

"Even if we manage to claim the treasures, once we leave, it won’t be easy to keep them. That man could use his authority to take everything from us in the Federation’s name, claiming we entered the ruins without authorization and stole what belongs to the Federation."

"Federation..." Azrael sneered when he heard the word. "That chant of Federation might work on other people, but it’s useless in front of me."

Elyara was startled by his response. Though she wasn’t human and had only come to the Slayers Academy through the exchange program, even she knew that among humans, the Federation held the highest authority and no one dared to defy it.

Yet, Azrael spoke as though the Federation could go ahead and kiss his ass for all he cared.

Seeing her stunned expression, Azrael shook his head and explained calmly.

"First of all, we both know the word Federation here is just a facade. They simply want to claim the treasures for themselves under its name. There’s no need to think too much about it. Second..." He paused and gave a casual shrug.

"If things really get messy, I will just call the vice principal. She’s the one who assigned me this mission, so it’s only natural to dump the whole mess on her."

"Vice principal..." Elyara was stunned to learn that it was Mira who had sent Azrael on this mission. She wanted to ask more, but when she saw his expression, she understood he wouldn’t reveal anything further.

Of course, Azrael wasn’t relying solely on Mira. If things truly became complicated with that Legend-rank warrior, he could always call Ashara or Maelir. Once he explained the situation to them, it wouldn’t be difficult to settle everything.

Time passed, and soon the sky above the ruins began to brighten with a soft shade of orange.

At the same time, as noon approached, Azrael could hear the distant voices of the security forces as they began preparing to enter the core area of the ruins.
