Before going off duty, Gu Yan received a call from Mo Yichen. He, in a mysterious way, told her to go off duty early because he would give her a present. She was baffled and asked Mo Yichen several times what that was, but he kept it secret. So, she quit asking, looking forward to the time after work.
It was time to go off duty when it was 5 o’clock. Gu Yan packed up hurriedly and walked downstairs more swiftly than usual. Jiang Jingcheng, walking behind her, intended to ask her what the matter was since she was in a hurry. But he didn’t call her because he saw the man waiting for her beside the car.
Looking the couple getting on the car hand in hand, Jiang Jingcheng felt sad. But he said goodbye to every employee he met, with a smile, as though all the unhappiness would vanish if he smiled.
But Gu Yan didn’t know Jiang Jingcheng’s sorrow. On the car, she kept asking Mo Yichen what the surprise was. “You’ll know later,” Mo Yichen replied, “I said it’s a surprise, so I won’t tell you now.”
Upon hearing this, she didn’t ask again. But she showed a visible sign of joy in her eyes. Seeing her childish behaviors, Mo Yichen shook his head.
But Gu Yan ignored his reaction, asking him to speed up.
Finally, they arrived at the shopping mall of the downtown.
“Why do you take me here? Do you want to buy the shopping mall for me?” Gu Yan was confused and teased Mo Yichen. Mo Yichen pulled a wry face because of her dullness.
“Sure. I can buy you as many as you want.” Mo Yichen said. Gu Yan knew he was talking nonsense, so she didn’t respond. She just frowned as she didn’t know where to go.
As soon as Mo Yichen realized it, he reached out his hand to hold hers and headed for the destination.
They got to a first-rate bespoke clothing store. Knowing Mo Yichen’s intention, Gu Yan was surprised and delighted at his thoughtfulness.
“Master Mo, the goods you want are ready,” a shop assistant said as he saw Mo Yichen.
Mo Yichen nodded, showing that he got it.
Then, other shop assistants came, and each one of them had an exquisite dress in their hands. Gu Yan’s eyes lit up because she, like every woman, was fond of gorgeous garments. Especially, these ones were chosen by Mo Yichen according to her liking.
Mo Yichen was happy because Gu Yan was joyful. “Try them on if you like,” he said to Gu Yan.
Mo Yichen looked up, motioning for the attendant to guide Gu Yan to the dressing room, but Gu Yan hesitated. Mo Yichen knew that she didn’t want to spend so much money on clothes, but he thought that he was wealthy, so why should she be so irresolute?
“Go to try them on, and I’m waiting to look!” Mo Yichen said. Meanwhile, he pushed her towards the dressing room.
Then Mo Yichen sat down, and the shop manager himself made a cup of tea for Mo Yichen. After that, the manager stood beside Mo Yichen and looked at him paging through the newly quarterly fashion magazine of the shop.
Although Mo Yichen was paging through the magazine, all he thought was Gu Yan. Were the garments suitable? After a while, he thought they must be suitable because they were of light color which could coordinate with everything.
He specially chose a bright red evening dress for her, and he believed it would perfectly coordinate with her spotless white complexion. Besides, Gu Yan had never dressed in red before, so this was a chance he could see it.
Gu Yan tried on many suits, and each one was suitable. She was a little tired. She didn’t care about what she dressed at the wine party, and thought that the most important thing was not dressing perfectly but appropriately.
She didn’t want to try on the rest, but Mo Yichen insisted on her trying on the red one. Gu Yan was not satisfied with the color. Although the design was simple which was to her liking, she had never dressed in such a bright color.
Since Mo Yichen wanted to have a look, and there was no need to be shy before him, she would try it on. And if it was not suitable, she would naturally refuse to buy it.
So, she headed back to the dressing room to put it on. When she finished, an attendant helped her put on a befitting make-up and wear her hair in a bun. Then, she went out to show Mo Yichen this.
After the curtain was pulled open, she stood between the mirror and Mo Yichen.
She didn’t have a look at herself in the mirror. When she saw Mo Yichen’s smile and amazement, she slowly turned around. When she saw herself in the mirror, she was also surprised.
“Oh, holy cow!”
The lady in the mirror was such a peerless beauty. The perfectly tailored garment, whose simple design showed both the charm of Chinese style and that of Western style, revealed her wonderful figure. All in all, Gu Yan herself was captivated.
Seeing Mo Yichen’s smile, Gu Yan knew that he was satisfied with the suit. But she still thought that red was too prominent.
Gu Yan was so gorgeous in the suit, but she was hesitant. So, the attendant beside her, who never persuaded customers into buying their goods, couldn’t help convincing her to buy it.
Hearing what the attendant said, she still couldn’t make a decision. Then she looked at Mo Yichen, but he was talking with an attendant instead of looking at her.
Gu Yan was angered because he was the one who let her try it on but didn’t look at her. Gu Yan stamped her foot in anger and returned to the dressing room to take off the suit.
When Gu Yan went out, she found that the clothes she tried on, along with some she didn’t tried on, were already packed up. And another attendant came with a fancy presentation box in hands and said, “The red suit was packed in the box.”
Hardly had Gu Yan been ready to refuse when Mo Yichen, who realized what she thought, took it from the attendant’s hands.
Carrying the clothes Mo Yichen bought for Gu Yan, the shop manager walked them to the car, and then he returned after they left.
The manager felt delighted secretly because his store had gotten a half-month sales volume. And he remembered the beauty of Gu Yan.
