Building an empire which the sun never set Chapter 68

Arthur woke early, aware that his scheduled meeting with his father regarding the new weapons was set for the morning. With little time to spare, he decided to forgo his usual morning exercise routine. Instead, he instructed the waiting servant at his door to have his breakfast brought to his room before heading for a quick shower. Once dressed in a freshly tailored suit, he heard a knock at the door just as he finished adjusting his cuffs. The servant entered, carrying a tray with his breakfast and a neatly folded newspaper. Settling into his chair, Arthur began eating while scanning the headlines. The first article covered the escalating tensions between the Usman Empire and the Syvatoslav Kingdom. Both nations had begun massing troops along their shared borders near the Black Sea, and the article speculated that war could erupt at any moment. Arthur absorbed the details carefully before moving to the next story.

The following article caught his attention immediately—it reported that Grand Duke of Sachsenburg's daughter, Anna von Sachsenburg, would soon be visiting Pendrallis. The newspaper speculated that this visit was intended to discuss a potential political marriage between Arthur and Anna, further fueling rumors by claiming that the two had met in their youth and had been fond of each other ever since. Arthur frowned slightly and searched his memory. It was true that Anna's father and his own mother were distant cousins, and as children, Anna had visited Pendrallis a few times alongside her father. However, the notion that they had any deep bond was entirely fabricated by the press.

He finished his meal and glanced at his pocket watch. Seeing that he had little time left before the meeting, he placed the newspaper back on the table, straightened his attire, and left his chambers to meet his father.

Upon arriving at his father's study, he found King Cedric engaged in conversation with Daniel, the Minister of Defense. As soon as Arthur entered, the discussion shifted to the results of the recent weapons trials.

King Cedric looked up and spoke first. "Arthur, how did the demonstrations go?"

Arthur stood tall and responded confidently. "The trials were a success, Your Majesty. The senior generals were highly impressed with the capabilities of the new weapons. They have approved their implementation within the army. Now, all that remains is your authorization, and we can begin large-scale production. The army is also preparing training programs to ensure effective deployment of these weapons."

Cedric nodded thoughtfully. He had already heard reports about the previous day's demonstrations. "I see. Then I approve the integration of these weapons into the army's arsenal," he declared. "Coordinate with Daniel to oversee both production and the necessary training to ensure that these weapons are utilized effectively."

Turning to Daniel, the king asked, "How long will it take for the army to be fully equipped with these weapons?"

Daniel bowed slightly before answering. "Your Majesty, once the first batch is delivered, we will begin training elite units first. Over time, we will gradually introduce the new weapons to the marine corps and then the rest of the army."

Satisfied, Cedric nodded. "Good. Now, tell me about the preparations regarding the looming war between Syvatoslav and the Usman Empire."

Daniel took a deep breath before replying. "Your Majesty, we have significantly strengthened our presence east of the White Sea. If Syvatoslav makes a move to seize the straits, we are in a position to intervene swiftly. Our intelligence operations have been gathering valuable information from both sides.

Our fleet has been conducting regular patrols near the strategic waterways, ensuring we are prepared for any escalation. Our agents embedded within Syvatoslav's bureaucracy have confirmed that their military logistics are still being organized. Meanwhile, within the Usman Empire, we have identified factional disputes among their military leadership that could be exploited should war break out. We have increased munitions production and reinforced supply routes to ensure rapid mobilization if intervention becomes necessary.

While we are not yet committed to taking a side in this war, we are maintaining a position of strength, ensuring that Pendrallis remains capable of defending its strategic interests."

King Cedric listened carefully before giving a nod of approval. "We may not take a side openly, but we must ensure that whichever nation emerges stronger does not threaten our interests." "Continue gathering intelligence and prepare for all possible outcomes. We must be ready for any shift in power."

With that, Daniel bowed and excused himself, leaving Arthur and his father alone.

Cedric leaned back in his chair, observing his son with a measured gaze. "Anna von Sachsenburg will be arriving in Pendrallis in one week," he stated. "Have you made the necessary preparations for her visit?"

Arthur sighed internally but maintained a composed expression. "Yes, Your Majesty. The palace staff has been informed, and arrangements have been made for her accommodation. She will be welcomed with the appropriate formalities."

Cedric nodded. "This is more than just a courtesy visit, Arthur. You understand the significance of her arrival, don't you?"

Arthur stiffened slightly. "I do. This visit is being framed as a political negotiation, but I imagine both Sachsenburg and Neustreich have their own objectives." Experience more content on My Virtual Library Empire

The king smiled knowingly. "Indeed. Whether or not a marriage alliance forms, it is crucial that we strengthen our ties with Sachsenburg. Their influence in Neustreich could prove useful in the future. Be mindful of that as you engage with Anna."

Arthur simply inclined his head in acknowledgment, though he made a mental note that he would deal with the political implications in due time.

Their discussion gradually shifted towards Syvatoslav's internal politics. "Tell me, Arthur," Cedric said, his tone more serious now. "What is your assessment of Empress Yelena?"

Arthur thought for a moment before replying. "She is far more politically adept than most assume. While Emperor Ivan struggles to implement reforms, Yelena has been gathering allies within the court, the military, and even among certain noble families. She does not hold official power, but her influence is undeniable. If Syvatoslav loses this war, I do not believe she will simply fade into obscurity."

Cedric stroked his chin in thought. "Then we must watch her carefully. Syvatoslav may appear unstable now, but with the right leadership, it could emerge from this war stronger than before."

Arthur agreed. "That is a possibility. We must be prepared for any outcome."

As their conversation concluded, Arthur stood, bowed, and took his leave. Stepping out of his father's study, he made his way back to his chambers, his mind already preoccupied with the tasks ahead.

Within this time, Arthur and William worked tirelessly to scale up production, preparing the first weapons for deployment. By the end of the first week, everything was in motion, and the day of Anna von Sachsenburg's arrival in Pendrallis had finally come
