Isabella walked out of the company with purpose, finding the centerpiece of her next plan had taken a lot of effort, well, most of the effort was from her Papa’s end.
Lauren was seated in her car where she left her, a cryptic expression on her face. It made Isabella a tad worried, after all, the plan banked on Lauren agreeing to go through with it.
Her long dark hair was neatly parted and pinned back with a hairpin, the Omega’s aesthetic was simple and elegant. Her voice was soothing, and she seemed to put a lot of thought into her words before she spoke.
"Davian will be coming out soon, right?" Lauren spoke.
Isabella’s palms were sweaty from nerves, "Yes, you don’t need to do much-"
"And you said the male Omega blackmailing him will be with him?" Lauren interrupted her, dark eyes beguiling.
Isabella swallowed past a lump, deceiving Lauren took a toll on her, the Omega was too pleasant to harbor any ill-will towards her.
At first, she had thought that the plan to get Davian’s only ex to show herself to Lake would fall through. Because the reason she would be giving her was a little ridiculous, she didn’t expect Lauren to be so naive.
Or maybe there was something the quiet Omega knew that she didn’t. It didn’t matter much. Lauren would just approach Davian and try to get close to him again in a bid to push out Lake.
The chances of her accomplishing that were something Isabella couldn’t say. It could be anything from a hundred percent to Davian sending her off the moment he saw her.
It didn’t help that Isabella couldn’t figure out what Lauren was thinking, and the Omega spoke so little.
"He will, he was at the meeting." Isabella reassured her, wisely leaving out the part that Davian hadn’t even attended the meeting. "There they are!"
Lauren’s eyes went wide at the sight of them and before Isabella could say another word, she was out of the car and marching towards them.
Isabella frowned, she might have shot herself in the foot with this plan. What if Lauren still had feelings for Davian? Wouldn’t that create more rivals for her?
Davian had an arm around Lake as they leisurely made their way to the car. Rosie was already seated in the car waiting for them, because there were a few executives who wanted to have a word with Lake.
"Let’s get ice cream on our way back to the company..." Lake was saying with a happy smile, he could already taste the chocolate ice cream.
Davian’s expression was indulgent, "If you can convince Rosie, sure."
He glanced to the side when he saw someone approaching them, doing a double take at the sight of the person and slowly came to a stop.
Lake noticed this and stopped as well, looking up at Davian with concern. "What’s wrong?"
"It’s been a while, Davian," A new voice joined the conversation.
Lake forgot about the question he had asked, looking at the new addition to their conversation. The Omega that had approached was unfamiliar, and he looked on curiously, very few people could hold casual conversations with Davian.
"Lauren." Davian simply said, his tone was partly a question.
Lake looked from Davian to the pretty Omega that Davian had called Lauren, hoping to be introduced because they did seem to know each other.
Lauren seemed to read his mind because she stepped even closer, "And this is?"
"Lake," Davian spoke over him, "My mate."
Lake wisely stayed quiet, a little lost on what was going on.
"Nice to meet you," Lauren took the initiative and offered a hand but her tone was neutral. "I’m Lauren, Davian’s ex."
Davian’s brows shot up to his hairline at that introduction, his previously pleasant gaze cooling to a chilling gray.
Lake’s smile turned forced as he shook her hand, "Nice to meet you. How strange, Davian has never mentioned you before."
"I’m not surprised he hasn’t," Lauren went on calmly, "You don’t seem to have known each other for too long."
Lake gritted his teeth at that underhanded jab, it was clear to see what Lauren’s motive was if she just walked right over and introduced herself as Davian’s ex.
Davian pulled Lake closer to him, he wasn’t about to allow a repeat of Saturday night. Lauren’s appearance had felt like a coincidence before but after hearing her speak for a few minutes, it was clear that she had a motive.
"I need to speak to Lauren for a minute," He said to Lake, the only way to get to the bottom of things was to meet them head-on.
He wasn’t sure if Bella Blackburn had a hand in this again, and it was why he needed to talk to Lauren privately.
Lake took a step back, his head was starting to hurt, his thoughts a growing tornado in his mind. "Right." He muttered, "I’ll just head to the car then." He said flatly.
Davian looked like he wanted to say something more but he forced it down, turning to Lauren with anger brimming in his slate-gray eyes.
"We were never exes. What the fuck are you talking about?"
Lauren took an unconscious step back, Davian had never been mad at her before, it was a little scary. "I have a very good reason for doing that." She tried to say bravely, her voice trembling.
Davian rubbed a hand over his face, "Did Bella Blackburn tell you this good reason?"
Lauren’s expression fell, "How do you know that?"
Davian cursed under his breath, clearly he had been too lenient to the heiress. "Because the Blackburns have gone bankrupt and she’s trying to get rid of my mate to latch onto me." He said bluntly, not sparing any information.
Lauren’s eyes bulged at that, and then looked past Davian to where the male Omega had walked off to. "So he isn’t blackmailing you?"
Davian grimaced, he had been the one to put the cuffs around Lake and not the other way around. "No."
