Captive Mate BL Chapter 488

The company was nothing like FluxCorp. LuxeLoom was written in bold black letters with a backlit backdrop. The foyer was far from peaceful and quiet, with people dashing around wearing flashy clothing or very little clothing.

Jael stood behind Rosie as a stressed-out fashion designer hurried past with someone holding a mannequin behind him, relieved that this wasn’t the company that Rosie had been stationed.

"So what do we need to do?" He asked dryly, the both of them standing out as the only ones not hurrying around.

A tall lady wearing what looked like a single piece of shimmering fabric on incredibly high heels hurried over, she flashed them a blinding white smile.

"Hi Rosie," She greeted affably, her voice slightly raspy, blonde hair deliberately messy. "Bea has been waiting for you, I’ll take you right to her."

Rosie nodded and walked after her, Jael sticking to her side. LuxeLoom was one of the companies that she usually dealt with on paper, the managing and creative director more or less ran the company and reported back to Lake.

It was no surprise, it was a small fashion company but it had made its mark. Rosie just had to hand over a very important fashion sketch that couldn’t be faxed or scanned to protect its expensive contents.

She didn’t bother with the specifics, she just had to hand it to Bea, the creative director and then she could be well on her way.

Bea was a middle-aged Omega who looked nothing like her age, slender with her faux blonde hair messy just like her personal assistant, she wore one of her own creations as she sat behind her large desk.

"You’re finally here, Rosie," She rose to her feet at the sight of her Mafia King’s personal assistant, although she was a director, Rosie more or less ranked above her.

Bea curiously studied the good-looking Beta Rosie had brought along with her but she didn’t dwell on him, more interested in other important things.

"Well, where is it?" She demanded impatiently with glittering eyes, going around her desk on impossibly high heels.

Rosie was quick to hand over the carefully preserved file, "It’s in there. It cost a lot of money to acquire so make it worth the boss’ while."

Bea nodded like a bobblehead, although Rosie really couldn’t say if the director had heard her or not. She needed to be somewhere else with Jael so she didn’t dally, already heading out the door before Bea could say anything more.

"What was in the file?" Jael gave in to his curiosity. He couldn’t guess what could be so important that Rosie had to be the one to bring it in person.

"An unpublished sketch from a designer who died in the nineties," Rosie was quick with the answer, "It was gotten at an auction."

Jael made a sound of comprehension although he could barely make head or tail of what Rosie had just said. His thoughts about sketches of a dead designer were left behind at LuxeLoom as he stepped on the gas to get them to the event on time.

Jael was used to being shunned in law-abiding, regular spaces. As someone who did the dirty jobs for the Mafia and ran clubs his whole life, fashion companies and aesthetic brunches were way out of his area of expertise.

But what surprised him the most was how tolerant they were of his weapons, he wasn’t sure if being with Rosie had something to do with that.

"For this, we just have to stick around for an hour and then be on our way," Rosie leaned in his direction to whisper to him, a uniformed waiter walking past them with flutes of champagne on a silver tray.

Jael nodded, completely out of his depth. He had thought it would be a busy day but really all he had done was just visit new places and drive Rosie around.

"Filling in for Mafia King Davian while he’s away on his honeymoon?" A lady in a dinner dress approached them, she held a flute of champagne, her pleasant smile a far cry from the animosity in her eyes.

"You mean Lake?" Rosie corrected flatly, "Yes, yes I am."

The lady could barely hide her look of disgust, her eyes roving over Rosie and Jael in disapproval. "I see," She didn’t bother smiling this time. "I should prepare a gift for them when they return."

Jael glanced down at his clothes and then at Rosie who wore her usual outfit of fishnets and a miniskirt, a bejeweled gun no doubt tucked into her bra. They really stood out in the event filled with men and women that came from old money, in their three piece suits and dinner dresses.

It had him wondering if they should have changed their outfits at LuxeLoom before coming over.

Rosie didn’t seemed the slightest bit bothered by the open animosity directed at her, reaching for some finger food only to make a face. "Did you bring lunch today?" She asked Jael, perching on a stool.

Jael mimicked her actions, he shook his head after he sat down. "Left in a hurry."

Rosie deflated, the food provided at the brunch tasted like it had been hosed down with water before it was served, the quantities unsatisfying. "Let’s grab lunch on our way back then."

Jael silently agreed, scanning the event hall, although they were seated in a corner, they drew attention, it made Jael curious. His opinion of Lake was that the strong-willed Omega was more interested in running the Mafia House than Davian had been.

And it showed in the way the Black Mafia House’s influence was starting to grow once more, he didn’t understand why there would be people who disapproved of him, he was doing a great job.

"There’s not a lot of fans of Lake in here," He noted coolly.

Rosie chuckled, "They wouldn’t dare to show it to his face though," She bluntly insulted them. "It really has nothing to do with his capabilities or the fact that he’s an Omega, it’s just because he didn’t come from money or social standing."

It was once again one of those things that Jael didn’t quite understand, in the circumstance that he grew up in, everything was dependent on one’s capabilities, or he would have been dead years ago.
