A group of girls were still all giggles in front of the dormitory building, but they quieted down as they moved a little farther away.
Only those two girls, who claimed they wanted to be the vanguard and the scout, were still walking in front. One of them went ahead to the school’s medical room, took a quick peek inside, and then whizzed back: "All clear now, let’s hurry and go! There’s no one in the medical room anymore."
Upon hearing the news, the other girls were somewhat puzzled. After some thought, one of them voiced what everyone was thinking: "Guess the injured one already got patched up and left, or maybe got transferred to a bigger hospital? Our school medical room can only handle things like coughs and fevers, and respond to emergencies. If it’s a serious injury, it’s probably beyond their abilities... "
"Who cares where they went!" Another girl interjected. "As long as they’re not in our way here, it’s fine. Let’s go, we have a dinner to go to!"
Xu Xiaoyan, whose brows were previously furrowed, she also relaxed and laughed, "Yes, yes! Let’s hurry up then... "
This girl, she had made some impulsive decisions earlier which gave her quite a scare. Hearing now that it’s safe, she immediately felt a sense of relief.
But the girls were actually being a bit too optimistic. No sooner had they walked out of the school gate, laughing and chatting, that they heard someone calling for one of them. They turned to look and saw their class adviser pedalling up behind them on a bicycle.
The adviser started reprimanding even before the bike came to a halt: "I’ve told you all not to run around the school, where are you going?"
Xu Xiaoyan had a startle, and replied, "What’s happened? Didn’t the school handle this situation well? My boyfriend is here, and I want to see him..."
"Oh..." The adviser sighed. "The injured male student is from a village in the city. I heard his parents are kind of a big deal there. They just had an argument with the school leaders and were chased out. The school warned them not to cause trouble, but the student’s parents said they will find you outside of school to settle matters regardless. Why are you all running around? You should stay in school for now!"
"Is the school not going to take care of this?" Miss Xu Xiaoyan bit her lip and asked reluctantly.
"It’s not that they won’t help, but they can’t do much when you’re outside. What if you run into them? If you’re near the school, they can still take care of it, but if they’re elsewhere, the school can’t reach out to help! They can only step in after something happens. You guys study law, right now they haven’t done anything illegal, even if you call the police, there’s nothing they can do. If they’re engaging in illegal activities, isn’t it too late? You’ll be the one at the loss!" The adviser explained.
"Let’s head back then! The school will communicate with them again later. If they’re intent on revenge, the school will certainly not ignore it!"
"My boyfriend is here, I have to see him." Xu Xiaoyan insisted without a second thought.
"Can’t you just wait for him at the school? He knows where your dorm is, right? Once you’ve seen him, have him leave immediately! This will prevent any more incidents from happening." The adviser suggested after thinking for a while.
"But I don’t want my boyfriend to know about this. He...tends to be impulsive. What if he comes to school and hears people talking about me while we’re together?" Xu Xiaoyan hesitated.
"You be careful, how would he even hear? Does he have other things to do when he comes over? Just tell him you’re busy with studies and to quickly deal with his own things. Just get rid of him fast..."
"No, it’s not like that. Anyway, I can’t explain all of it to you right now, we just can’t let him in the school, otherwise one word in our vicinity and he’ll know everything. How about I take a few more days off, and come back after a while? As long as it doesn’t affect the exams, that’s okay, right?"
"Why are you so stubborn?" The adviser couldn’t help but complain. "Fine then, I’ll just come with you all! After we meet him, we’ll go back to school right away. You stay in school properly these few days, wait for a few days and everything should be alright!"
"Or you all go back first? I’ll wait for him to come and I’ll go home with him for a few days. It’s pretty busy at home right now, I can help out for a few days. We’ll come back once everything dies down!"
"You...sigh..." The adviser, while being anxious, had no idea what to do with this girl. "Isn’t it you who wants to meet your friend now? Can you consider it later?"
"Alright then!" The girl thought for a moment and nodded. "Then I won’t go meet my friend right now, I’ll just go home directly instead. Oh, right, we still need to buy a chicken first... "
"You..." The adviser was speechless. This girl was still thinking about buying a chicken at a time . "Forget it, just do whatever you want, we’ll accompany you..."
The wet market wasn’t too far away, the group went to purchase a bunch of things. When they were returning, carrying their purchases, just as they were turning into the alley, a girl whispered, "Those guys up ahead are looking suspicious. Could they be the ones looking for trouble?"
"Possibly. Isn’t one of them from our school?" Another sharp-eyed girl shouted. "Teacher Yang, let’s hurry back to school. That male student must be leading them here. Can’t believe there’s a traitor in our school... "
The girls immediately prepared to circle around Xu Xiaoyan and make a retreat.
The girl wanted to say that she didn’t want to go back, but seeing that everyone else was so nervous, she didn’t say anything and followed the group back the way they’d come.
