His soft lips had just touched her neck when, the next moment, the phone rang out loud in the silent apartment spiling the peace.
"I win!" Jing Lihua didn't wait to push him off while he had his guard down. She immediately got the blindfold off her face and blinked a couple of times to adjust her vision. She finally felt alive again. With a big smile, she looked at Li Zhiqiang. Her smile dropped when she saw his irritated expressions. "This is unfair. It's not my fault you lost. Why are you getting all moody? You should have expected it before challenging me." She was puffed up. And why shouldn't she be? It took her all to keep silent.
She actually defeated the great 'Devil'! The event was worth a celebration!
"Silence. No one defeated no one." Li Zhiqiang was glaring at his phone like it had murdered his whole family.
"What do you mean?" Jing Lihua looked at the phone and her face paled.
"The bastard must have a good reason to call me or otherwise I'm going to make his life a living Hell!" Li Zhiqiang picked up the phone while Jing Lihua slouched down on the couch. She had just gotten a glimpse of the timer. It had only been one minute.
She couldn't believe it. It felt like an eternity. In the darkness, enveloped by him the time passed so slowly. This Devil was the master of psychological tricks.
"Speak." Li Zhiqiang's cold voice broke her out of her mourning. Even though it wasn't directed towards her, Jing Lihua could feel the anger.
Poor Li Xun. Jing Lihua was about to remind Li Zhiqiang no to be hard on Li Xun when she saw his darkening face. Unconsciously she shuffled back and her words got caught in her throat. "Is everything okay?" Out of concern, she asked.
Li Zhiqiang cut the phone curtly. "I'll have to leave. There is some emergency." Li Zhiqiang raked his hand through his hair in frustration and rose from the couch. He looked preoccupied. And somewhat hesitant.
That was a new. The great Devil had always been sure of what to do. Nothing in this mortal realm had been able to unnerve him. And Jing Lihua knew that better than anyone. "Tell me everything's alright." Jing Lihua rose and took the initiative to hold his hand. There was open concern in her eyes.
Li Zhiqiang glanced at her expressions and his heart warmed up. He laughed and ruffled her hair playfully. "Everything's alright. I'm sorry if I scared you with my reaction. But I'll have to leave."
"How could everything be alright if you have to leave right now." She mumbled in a low voice. She knew he would never give up the opportunity to be with her. The 'thing' was probably more important than her to him. And she felt childishly jealous and worried.
"Hey, I promise, everything's alright." Then he returned to his flirtatious smile. "Maybe, perhaps, you can't bear the thought of parting with me? Don' worry about that Jing Jing. If you want it that bad, I can accompany every night from now on."
Jing Lihua glared. "Why would you even think that? Don't joke President Li. I'm merely worried as the President of Li Empire if something happens to you, it would cause a great loss to me. My concerns are based on professional relationships with the business partner."
"Then do you hold hands with other business partners and ask them that everything's alright?" Li Zhiqiang laughed.
Jing Lihua immediately let go of his hands. She couldn't believe it. Hw childish he was making her act. She was not like this around other people. he was messing with her.
"Alright, I'll have to go. Try not to dream about me during the night." Li Zhiqiang finally stopped laughing. Before he left, he grabbed her face and planted a gentle kiss on her forehead.
Jing Lihua was unnerved. "Who gave you the liberty to kiss me whenever you want?"
"I took the liberty myself." Li Zhiqiang laughed and with that, he left. When he was gone jing Lihua touched the spot where his lips had touched her skin. It was still tingling. Even she didn't know that she was smiling. Even if she knew, she would have denied it.
She went to her bed. The white cat was sound asleep. "Where were you when Li Zhiqiang attacked me? You were supposed to protect me." She sighed and climbed into the bed and hugged the cat, falling asleep soundly.
In the morning Jing Lihua was faced with a strange problem. A problem, she hadn't guessed she would ever face. She called Mei Xiu and asked. "Mei Xiu, do you know what cats eat?"
Mei Xiu was stunned on the other side. That was an unexpected question, especially from someone like her President. "Err... President isn't that something everyone knows?"
"Okay, let me rephrase. What does an extremely picky, fussy and hard to please cat eat?" Jing Lihua had tried everything. Li Zhiqiang had mentioned between chats that the white cat could be a little hard to handle sometimes. But that was a serious understatement.
"President have you tried standard cat food they sell in the markets?" Mei Xiu was still puzzled.
"Do I look like a fool? Of course, I did that! It failed that's why I called you." Jing Lihua couldn't understand why her usually wise secretary was being so foolish. She shook her head in desolation.
"And did the cat not even sniff it?"
Jing Lihua looked at the mess the white cat had created in the kitchen. "Contrary to that, she felt as if she was being slighted for being fed commoner food and did a nice job with the food." Jing Lihua chuckled. So feisty. She liked feisty things. But that cat had to be tamed. Only for today, she would spoil it as their first day.
"Eh? President, what did the cat do?" Mei Xiu had herself not much of an experience with pets. But she tried to be the best help to her President she could.
"She pooped into the food bowl."
