Zayn turned to face Lily, her arms still wrapped around him. She could feel his heart pounding against her cheek, the rapid rhythm matching her own racing pulse. Zayn wrapped his arms around her too, squeezing tightly.
She felt the warmth of his skin against her own. It didn’t take long for Lily to realize what she had done. In a panic, she quickly released him, embarrassed by her initiation. She wanted to apologize, worried about how Zayn would react.
She had never been the one to take the first step. It was new to her. But Zayn didn’t let Lily go. He caught her arms and kept them firmly around his waist.

Lily nodded, her face still pressed against his chest.
“I am too,” he admitted, vulnerability lacing his words. “But you know what makes me feel better?”
Lily pulled back slightly to look up at him, head tilted to the side with a questioning look in her eyes.
Zayn’s eyes locked with hers. He raised his hand and pointed directly at her heart. “You.”
A soft laugh escaped Lily’s lips, but the sound held no real humor.
She shook her head and signed, ‘I’m useless. I can’t do anything to help you.’
Zayn frowned, his fingers catching her chin when she tried to look away. “That’s not true. You’re very helpful and useful.”
‘How?’ she asked, doubt evident in her expression.
“A Luna needs to be a role model for her fellow pack members, yes,” Zayn said, his thumb brushing across her lower lip. “But more importantly, she also supports her Alpha.”
His eyes softened as he gazed down at her. “I won’t be able to get through this without you, Lily,” he whispered, before leaning down to place a gentle kiss on her cheek.
The tender gesture made Lily’s heart skip a beat. Time slowed as she studied his face, his strong jaw, the hint of stubble catching the moonlight. A small scar above his eyebrow.
She raised her hand to cup his cheek. Zayn leaned into her touch, eyes closing briefly. Seeing how at peace he looked warmed Lily’s heart. A daring thought passed through her mind.
She stood on her tiptoes, pressing her lips onto his. At first, it was a mere brushing of lips. A light touch. But Zayn responded quickly to her advances. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close.
