Lightning crackled with a "zzzt!"
It came from the place where Kanna's tail was plugged into the outlet – charging. Or, to put it another way, devouring electricity to replenish her energy.
After a while, Kanna pulled her tail away with a satisfied look on her face, her whole demeanor invigorated.
Michiru seemed to have grown accustomed to her behavior by now and called her over.
"Kanna, come have some milk."
She had heated up a cup of milk just for Kanna. Although Kanna was a dragon and didn't actually need milk—and certainly not warm milk—Michiru simply couldn't reconcile her adorable appearance with the idea of her being a dragon, so she instinctively treated her as a small child.
Kanna's behavior was indeed childlike.
She ran over with little footsteps and, at Michiru's urging, climbed onto a chair. Her two small feet dangled in the air.
"Michiru, what's this?"
Her wide eyes gleamed with curiosity as she stared at the milk in the glass.
"It's warm milk. Drinking it is good for your body," Michiru explained.
Kanna's eyes lit up. She grabbed the cup in both hands and, in a single gulp, poured all the milk into her mouth.
The abrupt motion startled Michiru, but fortunately Kanna was a dragon, so she wouldn't be burned.
"Tasty! I want more."
Kanna offered the cup to Michiru.
Michiru refused her request for another cup.
Kanna had learned how to act cute, blinking her large eyes with a pitiful expression. Michiru was hit hard by the cuteness again, but for Kanna's health, she stayed firm:
"No, Kanna. Even tasty things shouldn't be overdone."
Kanna's face immediately fell into a disappointed little pout. Michiru couldn't help smiling wryly.
"Kanna, weren't you already full? Why are you hungry again?"
"Tohru said that's just how dragons are."
"Tohru said dragons have a strong sex drive, and by eating, we can redirect that desire elsewhere."
Kanna's statement left Michiru stunned. So that was a new bit of knowledge: she never imagined dragons would have such a strange trait. But...a strong sex drive?
Her eyes shifted to Kanna's tiny frame, and a big question mark popped up in her mind. Could this little body really have desires?
"Kanna, how old are you now?"
"Fourteen thousand. Kanna's still a hatchling."
That reply left Michiru speechless. Fourteen thousand and still just a hatchling?!
"What about an adult dragon, then?"
Kanna tapped a finger to her lip, thinking. "Tohru's an adult dragon. She's something like over fifty thousand."
Michiru felt she was truly seeing what "dragon" meant. Just the lifespan alone was beyond anything humans could compete with.
"Right, so Kanna, you said Tohru is also a dragon. Why did she come to this world?"
Michiru was somewhat worried about a fully grown dragon's intentions.
Kanna shook her little head. "I followed Tohru's scent here."
She sniffed. Her small nose twitched, and her face grew serious.
"Mm, Tohru's scent is definitely in this world."
Michiru mulled it over. "So can you find your friend, then?"
"I need to be full for that."
Kanna rubbed her tummy and suddenly declared, "Like drinking warm milk."
Michiru gave a dry laugh. She got the picture now: after going around in circles, the point was that Kanna just wanted more warm milk.
"Alright, alright. One more cup—then straight to bed."
Kanna's face brightened happily.
"Hana, let me have that last piece!"
"Eh? But Rei Ao-nii and I made that together..."
"Hmph. You just ate the food I made, didn't you?"
"Ugh! F-fine! All right, here it goes!"
Hana trembled as she brought out the finished dish.
Miko immediately opened her mouth and devoured it in one go. Exhausted, Hana tilted her head wearily, watching as Miko polished off the food she had made, even licking the "plate" back and forth until it was spotless.
Grumbling, she said, "You didn't leave me a single bite, and I'm the one who made it."
Miko shot her a look. "Hmph, it's got your flavor all over it, Hana. If it didn't, that'd be perfect."
"Wahhh~ Miko thinks I'm gross," Hana whimpered.
Watching them, Rei Ao reached out and patted both on the head. "I'll make more for you next time. We'll stop for today; next time you can eat till you're stuffed."
At his words, the pair ceased arguing over food. Their cheeks flushed, and they clambered onto either side of him, resting their heads on his shoulders.
"Rei Ao-nii, are you heading back now?"
"Yeah, I've been here a while."
He stroked their hair, kissing each one on the forehead. "So, have you firmly decided you want to be mine?"
Miko and Hana shared a look, each seeing the other's shyness and trembling, but also a certain resolve.
Miko spoke first: "Rei Ao-nii, I—I want to stay by your side."
Clinging to his warm body, she felt an inexpressible infatuation. It wasn't quite to the level of love, but she did enjoy that deep sense of attachment.
Hana, on the other hand, giggled: "I want to be Miko's best friend forever."
Rei Ao grinned mischievously. "Alright then, in that case, I'll give you a gift before I go."
He placed a finger on each of their smooth bellies. They felt a sudden heat at the point of contact.
They both let out startled cries. One had golden lightning dancing around her body; the other's hair turned fiery red.
"This is the protective power I'm giving you."
