Chapter 25: Chapter 25: You’re Welcome
“Luo Mengmeng, what are you doing?” Gu Zhihan walked forward, slightly speechless, but a careful look revealed a trace of a smile in his eyes, clearly feigning confusion.
“Gu Zhihan, you’re finally back!” Mengmeng heard his voice and quickly lifted her little head. Her tender little face unfolded into a smile, and, noticing him staring at the mountain of bowls, she then answered his earlier question. “I was just worried that all the dishes would be eaten while you were taking so long in the restroom.”
“Then I thank you.” After glancing at her, Gu Zhihan pulled out a chair and sat down.
“You’re welcome!” Mengmeng quickly responded with a bright smile on her childish face.
Gu Zhihan also slightly raised the corners of his lips. Idiot!
Halfway through the meal, the server came again, “Who is Gu Zhihan? Your fish is ready!”
“Fish? My husband’s fish?” Mengmeng, who was busy with her rice, turned her head towards the door upon hearing these key words. Her eyes filled with confusion as she looked at the serving aunt, and couldn’t help but ask, “Auntie, are you sure you haven’t made a mistake?”
Since when had her husband bought fish?
“Could it be that there’s no one here named Gu Zhihan?” The auntie holding the fish, bewildered by Mengmeng’s question, was about to leave, thinking she was in the wrong place, when Gu Zhihan stood up from his position and took the plate with the fish from her hands, “I am Gu Zhihan, this is the fish I bought.”
“Then that’s fine.” After nodding, the serving auntie turned and left.
Gu Zhihan then placed the fish in the middle between him and Mengmeng.
Mengmeng, biting her chopsticks, gazed vacantly at the plate of her favorite sweet and sour crucian carp, and then at Gu Zhihan, finally drawing a conclusion, “Husband, did you buy this fish especially for me?”
Because she had just been craving fish but couldn’t afford it, he bought it for her?
“Don’t flatter yourself. I bought it because I suddenly wanted to eat it,” Gu Zhihan, feeling exposed, was slightly embarrassed. He picked up his chopsticks and began eating the fish, pretending to enjoy it.
But in reality, he didn’t like the fish that sweet.
“But you don’t like sweet and sour things, do you?” Mengmeng ruthlessly exposed him again.
Every time Mother Su made sweet and sour dishes, he wouldn’t touch them at all, whereas they were her absolute favorite.
Seeing his unhappy expression, Mengmeng finally dared not speak anymore, and picked up her chopsticks to start eating the fish.
Crucian carp always had lots of bones, and not long after Mengmeng had started eating, she felt something stuck in her throat.
“Cough, cough, cough…” Mengmeng suddenly put down her chopsticks, grasping her neck with her small hand, her face swiftly turned red, “Husband… I… I’m choked… by a fish bone… cough, cough, cough!”
Mengmeng was coughing continuously, her expression one of immense pain.
“Choked?” Upon hearing this, Gu Zhihan immediately put down his chopsticks, grabbed the vinegar on the table, pinched her mouth open, and hurriedly poured it in, “Open your mouth quick, drink the vinegar!”
“Cough, cough… why do I need to drink vinegar?”
Mengmeng, ever the curious child, even while choked by a fish bone, needed to ask the reason first.
“Why do you talk so much? Of course, it’s because vinegar can soften the fish bone!” Gu Zhihan was almost driven to desperation by her, and seeing her wasting time here, fearing that her delicate throat might be scratched by the fish bone, he simply forced open her small mouth and poured the vinegar directly into it.
