Luo Mengmeng had lifted her head at the sound of footsteps, but when she saw who had come, she was visibly startled.

She had been scheduled to share the night shift tonight with a classmate named Ling something.

She hadn’t expected him to show up suddenly; she really had been given quite a scare just now.
Gu Zhihan immediately rolled his eyes at her and patted her head, “Am I that scary?”
“Not at all… How could someone as handsome and dashing as you be scary!” Luo Mengmeng hurriedly flattered with a laugh, then followed up with another question, “You still haven’t told me why you’re here tonight? Was it just to surprise me?”
“Of course not,” Gu Zhihan cleared his throat lightly and stated indifferently, “Ling Yuan had something come up tonight, so I’m taking his shift.”
As soon as he coughed, Luo Mengmeng couldn’t resist teasing him, “Are you sure? It’s not because you purposely asked someone to swap with you?”
She remembered that he had asked well in advance which night she was on duty.
“How could that be possible.” Gu Zhihan certainly did not want to admit it.
Luo Mengmeng batted her eyelashes, cradled her chin, and let out a small sigh, “Ah, and here I was thinking that if you really swapped shifts with your classmate just to be on duty with me all night, I would give you a kiss. Since that’s not the case… let’s forget it then…”
“I did swap on purpose with Ling!” Gu Zhihan immediately changed his tune without hesitation.
Luo Mengmeng covered her mouth and snickered, “I knew it!”
Gu Zhihan inched closer to her and raised an eyebrow, “What about the kiss?”
“What kiss? That was just me bluffing, it doesn’t count,” Luo Mengmeng began playing dumb, standing up from the step and ready to run off.
However, after merely one step, her arm was seized by Gu Zhihan, and in the next second, she was pulled into the young man’s embrace.
Now, barely a few millimeters separated the boy and girl’s cheeks, each clearly feeling the other’s breath.
“But I took it seriously,” Gu Zhihan said slowly, emphasizing each word, his voice deep and pleasing like a cello, echoing in the dim night.
Luo Mengmeng swallowed hard, fearing that he would really kiss her, and quickly reminded him, “Gu Zhihan, you can’t just do whatever you like; this is a military base…”
Before she could finish the word “base,” her cherry lips were captured by the young man’s kiss.
In the midst of the lingering summer cicada’s chirp and under the bright moon, Gu Zhihan gripped the back of her head, drawing her in closer. His tongue pried open her tightly clenched teeth, storming into the soft and sweet fortress like a general taking a city.
“Gu… you…” Luo Mengmeng had not expected him to dare kiss her in such a strictly guarded military camp. Her clear, distinct eyes widened in shock as she tried to pull away from his embrace, worried that they could be seen by patrolling soldiers.
Yet, Gu Zhihan remained exceptionally calm, even gently patting the back of her head, “Focus.”
After those three light words hit the ground, he resumed nibbling on her lips as if they were some rare delicacy of the world.
Gradually, under his naturally adept kissing techniques, Luo Mengmeng also slowly melted into a puddle of spring water.
The kiss lasted a long time, coming to an end only when Luo Mengmeng’s stomach began to “gurgle” its protest.
“Your stomach is growling,” Gu Zhihan said as he released her, smiling.
