“What key?” Gu Zhihan lifted his eyes impatiently for a glance at him.
The boy hadn’t expected his tone to be so fierce, and he touched his nose, adding, “I mean the key to the prop jail from our stage drama just now.”
Mention of this caused Gu Zhihan’s brows to furrow again, as he instinctively looked at his empty palms and apologized, “It seems I’ve lost it.”
In his rush to take Luo Mengmeng to the infirmary, he seemed to have carelessly lost the key…
“Lost it!?” The boy was stunned for a couple of seconds, his face falling, “Then what are we supposed to do? How can Xu Wenting get out of the prop jail without the key?”
“It’s none of our business, just go already, stop bothering people.” As soon as Tong Mo heard the name of that slut, she bluntly issued an order to get rid of him.
Whether she can get out of the prop cage or not, what does it have to do with them?
The boy could only leave, sheepishly, to find another way to free Xu Wenting.
The school doctor continued to treat Luo Mengmeng’s ankle, and she occasionally yelped in pain.
It pained Gu Zhihan’s heart to watch, and he stretched his arm in front of her, “Bite me when it hurts.”
At least that way he could share her pain.
“I don’t want to!” Luo Mengmeng raised her red-rimmed eyes, her small hand stubbornly pushing away his arm that was laid before her mouth.
She was fine dealing with the pain on her own; why would she drag him into it?
Seeing the two showing their affection again, Tong Mo and the others instantly felt like they were being force-fed dog food.
Eventually, Jiang Yibai couldn’t bear it any longer and, remembering the wooden stump, suddenly spoke up, “Mengmeng’s fall this time wasn’t an accident, it was intentional!”
When he spoke, his tone was very certain.
He had thought Gu Zhihan would ask who it was, but instead, he grimly stared at him, “Mengmeng is what you call her?”
Calling her so intimately as if he, the official boyfriend, was dead?
Was this really the time to quibble over nicknames?
“Oh, come on, Gu Zhihan, can you stop being jealous for now!” Tong Mo rolled her eyes at Gu Zhihan, before hurriedly questioning Jiang Yibai, “You just said that the wooden stump was tampered with, and that caused Mengmeng to fall, do you know who did it?”
“I have a suspect, but I can’t confirm it…” Jiang Yibai mused.
“Then who do you suspect?” Tong Mo asked eagerly.
Before Jiang Yibai could speak, Luo Meng, pale on the sickbed, ventured a guess, “Perhaps it was Xu Wenting?”
Her social standing at school had always been quite good; basically, she had no enemies, except for Xu Wenting.
Jiang Yibai nodded, “I have the same suspicion, because only she has had issues with you, and she has sufficient motive to harm you.”
“If it truly is her, I will make sure she can’t continue in this school,” Lu Zichen’s face darkened as he clenched his fist.
Luo Mengmeng sighed softly, “Let’s not jump to conclusions too soon, after all, this is just our speculation, and there’s no evidence to prove it was Xu Wenting.”
Everything is about evidence, and without it, even if it were true, it would be slander.
“We will look for the evidence, and you just focus on healing,” Gu Zhihan and Jiang Yibai said almost in unison after exchanging a look.
Though they were rivals in love, at this moment they were united.
A warmth surged in Luo Meng’s heart, and with teary, smiling eyes she said to them, “Thank you.”
“We’re friends, don’t be so formal.”
Tong Mo and the others rolled their eyes at her.
