Chapter 47: Chapter 47 I Really Can’t Help It
“Mmm… I… won’t cry… anymore…”
Mengmeng finally stopped crying with his comforting.
Gu Zhihan wasn’t laughing at her, but that didn’t mean others wouldn’t tease Mengmeng.
When school resumed after the winter break, Mengmeng was afraid others would discover that she had lost four teeth. On the first day back, she even wore a mask on purpose and with her leaky-mouthed speech, she instructed Gu Zhihan, “B-Brother, you… mustn’t… tell others about m-me… losing teeth!”
She definitely didn’t want her classmates to laugh at her.
Kids at this age already have their own understanding of beauty and ugliness, so it was normal for Mengmeng to act this way.
“Got it.” Gu Zhihan replied expressionlessly, though inwardly he found her ostrich-like approach quite unreasonable.
Did she think that by wearing a mask, others wouldn’t notice her missing teeth? Would the teacher let her keep it on all the time? Or perhaps, she wasn’t planning to speak anymore?
Upon arriving at the school, Lu Zichen immediately came over, his peach blossom eyes curiously staring at the mask on Mengmeng’s face, “Mengmeng, are you cold? We’re in the classroom, why are you still covering up with a mask?”
As he spoke, he even reached out obligingly to remove the mask from her face.
Mengmeng hummed softly, not talking to him, and simply swatted away his annoying hand as she bypassed him and walked to her seat.
“Huh???” Lu Zichen watched her blankly, following right behind her, incessantly asking, “Mengmeng, what’s wrong, why aren’t you talking to me?”
Mengmeng still didn’t speak.
Her odd reaction only made Lu Zichen more suspicious, and even Tong Mo was curiously looking at her.
“Mengmeng, did you take some kind of mute medicine today? Why aren’t you talking?” Tong Mo asked as she gave Lu Zichen a look, signaling him to cooperate with her later to remove Mengmeng’s mask.
She really wanted to see what was going on under Mengmeng’s mask.
Lu Zichen was also very curious about this, so upon catching her eye signal, he quickly nodded.
Four hands suddenly swung towards Mengmeng, and our utterly unprepared Mengmeng had her mask abruptly removed.
“You guys…” Mengmeng instinctively made a sound, her eyes widening into circles, glaring at them huffily.
It was too much; how could they just take off her mask without her permission.
“Holy crap, your teeth!!!”
The moment Mengmeng opened her mouth to speak, Tong Mo and Lu Zichen noticed her missing four upper teeth and the whistling sound when she talked, which looked extra comical.
The two of them immediately clutched their stomachs and burst into laughter, almost crying from how hard they were laughing.
“Mengmeng, where did all your teeth go?”
“Do you know you look just like an old lady right now?”
“More like an old witch!”
The two of them took turns commenting, perfectly embodying the essence of ‘frenemies’.
Though everyone was at the age of losing teeth, and missing teeth here and there, it was rare to see someone like Mengmeng lose four at once.
“N-No… s-shh… quiet…” The secret exposed, Mengmeng’s face instantly flushed red, and she quickly put her hands over their mouths to silence their laughter, but they were like they had eaten Mentos, laughing uncontrollably.
“I was actually not going to laugh, but after hearing you talk, I’m sorry, I just couldn’t hold it in…” Lu Zichen started with a sincere expression, then immediately fell back into “hahaha” booming laughter, clutching his stomach.
