"Lin Xiaoyou, when will your brother’s leg be better?"
If it weren’t for her brother, Lin Chao, suddenly breaking his leg and her being strongly recommended by Lin Chao, coupled with the fact that she was indeed good at handling affairs, he would absolutely never allow a woman to dangle in front of him.
"Does Mr. Gu find something wrong with my work?" Lin Xiaoyou countered his question with one of her own, her eyes brimming with tears that were hard not to pity.
"Not at all, I just don’t like having women flutter around me," Gu Zhihan stated indifferently before he left.
From his childhood to adulthood, he didn’t know how many women had liked him, and Mengmeng had no idea how much she had suffered secretly or openly because of them. Thus, over time, he had grown exceptionally averse to women other than Mengmeng.
Especially those who fancied him.
Why does it always seem like it’s only the other women who suffer!
Lin Xiaoyou’s face, with its delicate makeup, suddenly stiffened, "My brother’s leg will take, well, some more time to heal."
After uttering a single syllable that was worth its weight in gold, Gu Zhihan took the CEO’s private elevator to the meeting room.
Downstairs, Secretary Lin looked up adoringly at her retreating figure.
This man, he must find a way to have him.
Everyone noticed that Gu Zhihan was still in a jolly mood, laughing inexplicably, prompting bewildered glances amongst the staff.
Even when employees reported mistakes or failed to meet performance standards, he didn’t lose his temper and cheerfully remarked that it was no big deal.
After the meeting was over, someone cautiously inquired, "President, did you encounter some happy event today?"
"I got married," said Gu Zhihan, his lips curving into a boastful smile.
Everyone was instantly stunned.
But then they thought about it again: he was in his twenties, after all. Getting married was normal enough.
"Congratulations, President."
"This is really great news."
"Wishing the President and his wife a lifetime of happiness."
"Thank you." Gu Zhihan accepted their congratulations one by one, his usually cold and ruthless face now full of tenderness.
Secretary Lin looked at Gu Zhihan, who suddenly seemed like a different person, and felt a complex mix of emotions inside, her hands clenching tightly beside her uniform.
How could Mr. Gu get married so quickly?
But then she thought again, so what if he’s married?
There’s always the opposite word—divorce!
"Mr. Gu, may I ask another question, who is your wife among the famous ladies?" the crowd continued to gossip.
After pondering for a moment, Gu Zhihan finally said, "She is still a student, and it’s inconvenient for me to tell you too much."
He was now more or less a public figure, and Mengmeng still had over a year until she could graduate from school. He didn’t want to expose her now and subject her to harassment from reporters and the like.
Seeing this, nobody pressed further.
Secretary Lin curled her beautiful thin lips into a smile.
It seems the wife of Mr. Gu is just a college student.
That would make her even easier to deal with...
A plan suddenly formed in her mind.
After the meeting, Secretary Lin sashayed into the president’s office on her high heels, "Mr. Gu, I’m going to meet with Mr. Li shortly, but my car broke down. Could I borrow yours?"
"Is my car the only one in the entire company?" Gu Zhihan, always sharp-tongued, bluntly retorted.
Secretary Lin didn’t expect that he would refuse even such a small favor, and her complexion turned alternating shades of green and pale. Biting her lip, she continued pitifully, "I know other people in the company have cars, and I shouldn’t disturb you with such a trivial matter, but I am representing the company to meet Mr. Li after all. It wouldn’t do well to drive an average car and inadvertently cause others to look down on our company."
Each of her sentences seemed professionally minded.
