Gu Moqian leaned against the desk, his posture slightly relaxed, with one hand casually in his pocket. "Once I’ve dealt with things on my end."
What he was really thinking was that after going to Japan and taking care of that issue, he would return and complete the wedding.
"Alright, as long as you know what you’re doing."
Gu Zhizhou had long adopted a hands-off approach with Gu Moqian. He knew his son planned every step carefully, so he didn’t ask further questions.
Gu Moqian lowered his head slightly, his expression suggesting he was lost in thought.
"Is there anything else you want to tell me?" Gu Zhizhou asked when he saw him .
Gu Moqian raised his head, his deep, ink-like eyes fixed directly on him. "Dad, I remember when we visited Aifei Manor in Britain last time, there was someone who looked a lot like Ji Wei. At the time, you mentioned she was your private secretary. Why didn’t you bring her back when you returned to the Country?"
Gu Zhizhou hadn’t expected Gu Moqian to suddenly bring up the private secretary. His expression froze for a moment, then he forced a slightly tense smile. "Miss Zhao is just my secretary. She has her own life in Britain, and since I was only in the Country for a couple of days, there was no need to have her come along. It’d be quite a hassle for her."
Gu Zhizhou’s explanation was flawless, and Gu Moqian let out a meaningful "Oh" before saying nothing more.
"It’s getting late. Go get some rest."
Gu Zhizhou said as he rose to his feet.
The two walked out of the study together. After only a few steps, they saw Ji Wei dashing down the stairs in her slippers, her movements hurried and somewhat frantic.
"What’s wrong?" Gu Moqian asked.
Ji Wei stood there, dressed in freshly changed pajamas. Her damp hair hung loosely on her shoulders, and she seemed to be clutching something in her hand.
Ji Wei gasped, her voice a mix of excitement and disbelief as she called his name.
It was the first time Gu Moqian had ever seen Ji Wei look . In her eyes, there seemed to be... tears!
He quickly stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her shoulders, his eyes filled with concern. "Tell me what’s going on."
Ji Wei looked at him, her eyes slightly blurred.
She forced herself to calm down, then opened her palm.
Gu Moqian lowered his gaze and saw what she was holding in her hand. His entire body stiffened.
It was a pregnancy test stick. Apparently, she had taken it while showering earlier.
The test stick showed two lines—one dark and one faint. The faint one was very light, but it was still visible.
It was Ji Wei’s first time using such a thing. In her past life, she hadn’t realized she was pregnant until severe morning sickness hit. She had gone straight to the hospital for confirmation, never needing to use a test stick.
She wasn’t sure whether a faint line and a dark line indicated pregnancy, but she couldn’t contain her excitement, as the probability seemed high.
Gu Moqian stared at the test stick in Ji Wei’s hand for a long while. His typically composed pupils were filled with shock, unable to immediately process this sudden development.
"Are you pregnant?" After a long pause, Gu Moqian grasped her hand and asked in a trembling voice.
At the staircase, Nan Huiru’s figure suddenly appeared. She rushed downstairs and came directly to them. Reaching out abruptly, she snatched the pregnancy test from Ji Wei’s hand and examined it repeatedly as her heart sank.
Nan Huiru’s pupils widened, her face filled with disbelief as she murmured, "It’s true... pregnant!"
There was no mistake; two lines meant she really was pregnant.
If Ji Wei was carrying the Gu Family’s child, her position would become even more secure and untouchable!
Gu Zhizhou stepped forward. The moment he saw Nan Huiru’s expression, he immediately understood what had happened.
"Moqian, it looks like Ji Wei might be pregnant. You and her should go to the hospital tomorrow to confirm with a proper checkup. During the first trimester, the fetus is unstable, so extra caution is necessary."
"Got it," Gu Moqian finally snapped out of his daze.
Seeing Ji Wei wearing thin pajamas and barefoot in slippers, his brows furrowed slightly as he took her hand and began leading her upstairs.
