Xiao Nian was so exhausted he felt as though he was going to die.
Panting away like a cow, he paddled after Pei Zhen through the turns and corners of the streets. He looked back at the quiet lane behind him and finally gave up.
“Stop… stop now.” He put one leg down on the ground as his bicycle came to a halt. Then with a thud, he sat himself down, not caring in the least about his own image. “I… I can’t go on.”
Pei Zhen was tired too, but he had considerably good stamina. At least, he didn’t look half as bad as Xiao Nian. “Don’t… don’t say you can’t if you’re a man.”
“Then why don’t you give me a ride.”
“Get lost.” Pei Zhen took a few deep breaths. He thought of his boyfriend and gritted his teeth. He had to get on with it. Just as he was about to take out his mobile phone to check the map, the back door of the bookshop swung open.
Xiao Nian was leaning against the door.
As the door swung open he lost his balance and toppled over with a piercing scream. While his head didn’t hit the ground, it did hit something soft.

Stunned, he looked up.
Leg… a long leg, then a towel and in between the legs… the little birdie.
“What the f***!!!”
Xiao Nian immediately turned over and scrambled as he got up. Turning red, he stared at the man who had decided to appear out of nowhere. “You son of a bitch!”
“It’s the twenty-first century now; haven’t you learned how to be more civilized?” The man had attractive features and was quite dashing. “I’m the one being disadvantaged here. Don’t worry, I have a partner and won’t hold you responsible.”
Xiao Nian was still stunned by the incident but grew more furious as the man spoke. He hadn’t thought about how he wanted to position his argument when the man turned to look at Pei Zhen.
“You… look a little familiar.”
“Oh.” Pei Zhen looked indifferent.
Then he walked over to help Xiao Nian up. Obviously, they should get up and go right away.
No longer bothering with the bicycle, Pei Zhen decided to call a cab. He took out his mobile phone. All of a sudden, the man shouted, “Oh! Now I remember!”
