Howard Geoffrey sat down on the bed holding Rebecca Quentin, his thin lips close to her ear. "You smell so good..." The scent of her freshly bathed body was intoxicating and overwhelming.
Rebecca Quentin, ticklish, immediately shrugged her shoulders. "Get away!"
Howard didn’t tease her further and, with a genteel smile, asked, "Would you like me to take you on a tour of a fun place on the island?"
Rebecca Quentin refused bluntly. "No."
Howard’s dark eyes twinkled with mischief. "Do you want to stay here with me then...?"
Rebecca Quentin was both embarrassed and annoyed, biting her tongue so hard that it hurt too much to speak.
Howard’s laughter became even more pronounced, but he tactfully stopped teasing her. "Let’s go then!"
Rebecca Quentin said angrily, "You can go wherever you like, I’m not going!"
Howard frowned. "Why are you being so prickly, like a little hedgehog?"
"None of your business!" Breaking away from his arm around her waist, she stood up and, dragging her still-aching foot, hurried out of the room as fast as she could.
On the beach, Rebecca Quentin sat under a parasol, drinking freshly squeezed juice served by a maid, her brow deeply furrowed with anxiety.
She really was clueless! Only now did she realize that in these past two days... he hadn’t used any contraception at all! Whether she accepted it or not, what was done was done. Even if she thrashed him, it would be useless. The urgent problem now was that she might be pregnant. This island was Howard’s private purchase. Naturally, there were no pharmacies. Food and supplies were all brought in by yacht. Even if some medicines were included, she doubted they would have the emergency contraception she needed... What an infuriating problem. And to make matters worse, she couldn’t go anywhere, nor did she want to ask him for help... What should she do? Although these past two days weren’t her most fertile period, the chance of pregnancy wasn’t small. Heavens... she might as well not live.
Just as Rebecca Quentin was at her wit’s end, completely lost in her tangled thoughts, a cup of warm water suddenly appeared on the table before her.
Without even needing to look up, Rebecca Quentin knew who it was; Howard’s masculine scent was always so faint and pleasant.
She chose to ignore him completely, even turning her face away when he approached.
Howard seemed unfazed by her disregard, his tone gentle. "I was thinking, you’re surely unwilling to bear my child right now..."
He knew the child they had lost four years ago was a pain she would likely never forget.
Rebecca Quentin stared at the sea and replied bluntly, "In your dreams!"
Hearing her resolute, angry tone, a smile touched Howard’s lips. "Whether you want to or not is up to you, but whether it happens or not is up to me."
Rebecca Quentin’s face flushed red with anger again at Howard’s words. She abruptly stood up, her gaze shooting daggers at him. "Howard, don’t you dare push me too far!"
Facing Howard, Rebecca Quentin felt for the first time that her usual good upbringing was far too good!
Howard’s dark eyes narrowed, an intense glint shining from them as he leisurely watched her.
It was only then, facing Howard, that Rebecca Quentin noticed the two small white pills in his hand.
During the two years they had been together, she had occasionally taken these pills, so she recognized their effect at a glance—they were effective within forty-eight hours.
Her gaze fixed on the white pills, and she reached out her hand. "Give them to me."
Howard’s lips curled into a sinister smirk. "Are you really so unwilling to bear my child?"
Rebecca Quentin said, her voice tinged with anger, "I don’t want to discuss this with you. Give me the pills."
In that instant, Howard casually flicked his hand, and the pills went flying...
"AH!" Rebecca Quentin stared in stunned disbelief, watching as the pills described an arc in the air before disappearing into some unknown patch of sand.
"’This should make my mother happy,’ Howard said, then turned and walked away."
Rebecca Quentin chased after him.
Soon after, all the servants on Foam Island saw Rebecca Quentin relentlessly pursuing Howard. Their playful fighting and bickering looked just like a young couple having a lover’s quarrel.
An entire day passed just like that. Finally, even after forty-eight hours had passed, Rebecca Quentin still hadn’t managed to get any more pills from Howard.
So, skipping dinner, Rebecca Quentin locked herself in her room, as if in a fit of pique with Howard, and bolted the door securely.
Tonight, she definitely wouldn’t give Howard another chance...
However, things rarely go as planned. Who could have guessed that her room and Howard’s room were connected by a study? And at that very moment, Howard was brazenly walking from the study into Rebecca Quentin’s room.
