"Have I ever said that I care about him?"
"If you didn’t care, you wouldn’t have lost so badly in front of my sister-in-law that night."
"You’re really overthinking it. He was never mine, so how could I have lost anything?"
"Alright, I’m very tired now. I want to find a hotel and get a good rest." She was really tired. If she pushed herself any further, she was afraid she would collapse again.
Roger didn’t force her. "Alright. It’s hard to get a cab now. I’ll take you to a nearby hotel."
Rebecca Quentin nodded. "Thank you."
For the first time in four years, Rebecca Quentin slept until afternoon.
If it weren’t for the knocking on the door, she might have stayed in bed all day.
When she got up, she found that more than half of her pillow was wet. She calmly pulled the blanket over the pillow and opened the door.
Leaning against the door, Rebecca Quentin inquired, "General Leonard, I thought you’d be very busy managing the vast Leonard empire. Why do you always have time to appear in front of me?"
Roger noticed Rebecca Quentin’s red, swollen eyes. "Did you cry?"
"Can’t you feel that your eyes are swollen like walnuts?"
Rebecca Quentin directly skipped the topic. "What do you want from me?"
Roger answered, "I know you might have suffered a lot at Dora’s place, but now someone wants to stand up for you. Do you want to meet her?"
Rebecca Quentin immediately thought, "The person who persuaded you to help me?"
Roger nodded. "If it weren’t for this person, even if Dora personally instructed me to take care of you, I probably wouldn’t have the spare time."
Roger’s words made Rebecca Quentin even more puzzled. "Who exactly is it?"
Roger mysteriously replied, "You’ll know when you go. I promise you won’t regret meeting her."
"No. She’ll keep urging me to take you to meet her."
"Alright. As a thank you for taking care of me these past few days, let me change my clothes first."
Roger brought Rebecca Quentin to a quaint Vintage Tea Restaurant in G City.
Walking into the restaurant, Rebecca Quentin was puzzled. The elaborate Chinese furnishings inside didn’t seem like a place young people would frequent.
Rebecca Quentin curiously asked Roger, "Is this person older?"
"You can see for yourself; she’s right there." As he said this, Roger smiled and waved to the person in front.
Following Roger’s gaze, Rebecca Quentin saw an impeccably dressed older woman sitting by the window.
Not expecting to be faced with such an elegant and dignified elder, Rebecca Quentin followed Roger over and awkwardly greeted her, "Uh, hello."
Mrs. Geoffrey stood up, her gaze fixed on Rebecca Quentin the entire time, her expression gentle and kind.
"AHEM... Aunt, let me introduce you. This is Dora’s ex-wife, Rebecca Quentin."
Mrs. Geoffrey nodded and smiled.
Rebecca Quentin didn’t know who this "Aunt" Roger referred to was, so she could only smile along foolishly.
"Becca, Aunt is Dora’s mother. You can call her Aunt."
What? In an instant, her eyes widened. Rebecca Quentin froze on the spot, her body stiffening slightly.
Mrs. Geoffrey, as if already familiar with Rebecca Quentin, said kindly, "Becca, sit."
Rebecca Quentin’s face turned pale, and she was at a loss.
Roger pulled Rebecca Quentin down to sit, then grinned at Mrs. Geoffrey. "Aunt, I told you, you can trust me with this. See? I brought her as promised. My work here is done. You two, mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, can have a slow chat."
Mrs. Geoffrey nodded with satisfaction. "You can go now."
Roger got up. "Becca, I’ll leave then."
Before Rebecca Quentin could stop Roger, Mrs. Geoffrey’s kind voice reached her. "Let him go. If you have any questions, just ask me."
Rebecca Quentin turned her face awkwardly toward Mrs. Geoffrey, her hands fidgeting nervously under the table.
"I’m sorry, I just got off the plane and didn’t have time to buy you a gift," Mrs. Geoffrey said. "Next time. Next time I’ll pick out a nice gift for you."
"Uh, Aunt, you don’t have to." Despite her relationship with Howard Geoffrey being over, Rebecca Quentin still regarded his mother as an elder.
Mrs. Geoffrey gracefully brewed the tea, her tone still very kind. "Don’t be afraid to look at me. I’m not like my son; I don’t bite."
