Lin Yishan shifted her gaze away from his seemingly indifferent handsome face, as if she saw nothing, and said to Ms. Wa, "Auntie, do you have any water?"
"Yes, yes, it’s in the kitchen. I’ll pour it for you." As she eagerly served the prized daughter of the Lin Family, Ms. Wa gave her son an indignant glare.
Lin Yishan stopped Ms. Wa, who was about to pour water for her, "Auntie, I can do it myself. You might become my mother-in-law one day; how could I possibly let an elder serve me water?"

"Alright, it’s in the kitchen. Try to find it, and if you can’t, just call out for me," Ms. Wa said affectionately as she stroked the back of her hand.
Lin Yishan nodded and made her way to the kitchen.
Ms. Wa beckoned her son over, "Come, help carry Shanshan’s luggage to the guest room."
"We don’t have a guest room," Wa Zicong said.
The Wa Family’s home was indeed small, with just two rooms. One of them was still squeezed out of the living room and part of the kitchen, and it had always been his room. Ms. Wa stayed in the master bedroom.
"What are you talking about?" Ms. Wa smacked her son, "You can’t even pour her a glass of water, but you can’t let her sleep in the living room either. She will stay in your room tonight."
"Fine," Wa Zicong suddenly changed his tone, agreeable, "If she’s going to stay here tonight, I’ll go to a hotel."
"How much money do you have for a hotel? Haven’t you not found a job yet?" Ms. Wa seized the opportunity to criticize her son’s stubbornness, "A good job, a great future, all ruined because of that temper of yours. Thankfully, Yishan is kind-hearted and here to throw you a lifeline. If you don’t seize it, are you stupid? Don’t you think about how many years I have struggled to raise you? I don’t expect you to strike it rich, but at the very least, you should be able to scrape by—"
"Why can’t I scrape by?" Wa Zicong interrupted his mother, his tone resolute, "I said I’d rather not go crawling back to them. That’s not happening. Send her away quickly. Good horses don’t go back to graze on old pastures."
"Oh, what are you saying?" Seeing her son so set in his ways, Ms. Wa felt somewhat helpless and decided to change her tone, "Fine, if you want to stay at a hotel, stay at a hotel; I’ll keep her here. She didn’t come here for you, she came for me."
"What?" Wa Zicong turned around, surprised by what his mother meant.
"Haven’t you thought about it? You’ve lost your job, and that little savings wouldn’t last long. Of course, I need to quickly find a way to make money," Ms. Wa said.
Wa Zicong was stunned for a moment, then asked, "Are you saying you took my savings?"
"Didn’t you hand over the savings book to me?" Ms. Wa pouted.

"Of course, it’s for investing. Money begets money; otherwise, how could we make money?" Ms. Wa said matter-of-factly.
Wa Zicong was nearly bursting with anger, "You invested it? Did you even ask for my opinion? Don’t you know your son studied finance?"
"I saw you busy looking for a job; you didn’t have time for this," Ms. Wa said, trying to soothe his emotions, "It’s okay. Shanshan, like you, studied finance in university; moreover, she had never failed in her previous investments, right? I let her review the project. She has researched it and found it safe for investment."
Right then, Lin Yishan finished pouring her water, holding the cup as she walked out, and upon hearing Ms. Wa’s words, she said, "Auntie, rest assured, I specially inquired about this project myself. There’s no problem."
