It is time, for the Chunin Exams. Knowing what's ahead of us we're in a mix of excitement and anxiousness.
We arrive in front of the marked class 3-1.
All three of us know this is actually class 2-1 disguised, but it was a good show to watch and to take our measure of team Guy and the soon-arriving team Kakashi as well.
With a Byakugan it wasn’t hard to time our arrival right, we hid behind the crowd of random Konoha genin in front of the class as we looked at random genin getting shoved and prevented from entering by the exam assistants Izumo Kamizuki and Kotetsu Hagane disguised as their younger selves.
They make eye contact with us as they judge ninjas of our caliber shouldn’t be held back here and should have at least tried to make it past them by now but I just wink back in response and continue watching.
Team Guy eventually arrives and we make sure Sakura remains out of Rock Lee’s sight for now we watch as the two Jonin bully Rock Lee who insists on entering but does so while holding back and letting himself be beaten.As this happens Naruto, Sasuke and Shino also arrive, matching the timing of the plot.
Eventually, same as in the anime Rock Lee gets shoved to the ground
“Hmm~So you’re going to attempt to take the Chunnin Exam with that skill?”
The underlying message is to stop fooling around Lee and show some spine…
“ Maybe it’d be best if you runts quit”
“You’re green-asses brats after all”
An interesting thing is there are no ninjas from other villages outside this class which should have alerted the waiting genin to what this is...
Another pre-selection for Konoha genin, warning us that if we’re going to be fooled by the most basic of genjutsu and lack rational thinking then we better not even show our faces in the real exam to preserve the image of Konoha.
“Please let us through.” Tenten says as she walks forward.
And this is as far as we let things play out…
As Izumo is about to punch Tenten’s face I use the body flicker I’d been measuring to step between them and catch his clenched fist in my palm right before it hits her.
“Eh…” Izumo reacts.
“That's enough… I’m disappointed with what I’m seeing…Green guy on the ground”
“Me?” Rock Lee asks.
“Yes you, what is the point of being strong if you refuse to use your strength and let the people you care for get hurt.”
“You… you’re right I’m very sorry.”
Rock Lee drinks up my righteous spiel as my next words are to Izumo.
“And you… it’s not nice to bully younger girls.”
“They signed up for it when they became ninjas.”
“True, but it’s still a crime against the world to try to harm a woman's beauty, Izumo…”
“Beauty” Tenten exclaims before nuzzling against her arms, lost in her world due to having been complemented by a good-looking guy like me.
It seems the ‘first impression’ plan A-1 was a success.
The two examiners were surprised by how I figured out his identity and even knew his name. They take the hint and head back inside the class.
Sasuke’s eyes are trained on me since I intervened comparing me to when we last faced in the Academy but he doesn’t approach.
“Can we move on to the real class now?” Sakura asks.
“Yes”
I snap my fingers and instead of canceling the genjutsu field surrounding us, I alter it so the signboard now reads 4-1 instead.
Neji approaches his colleagues and Sakura and Hinata approach me as well.
We hear Naruto softly muttering Sakura’s name as each member of team Guy has an intense stare down on one of mine.
Tenten stares at me, a crush already developing in her heart as she asks shyly.
“Thank you, may I know your name?”
“Yami Yuumo, a pleasure to meet you. These here are my teammates, Sakura Haruno and Hinata Hiuga.”
“Sakura…” Rock Lee’s eyes are captivated by Sakura’s looks but before he can say any more Sakura hugs my arm nd plants a kiss on my cheek, wanting to avoid his confession.
“Yami please… already looking for more girls to join, aren’t we enough.”
“Argh~~”
Rock Lee, Tenten and Naruto in the audience take a direct hit.
“M-More?” Tenten asks.
“Hmm~ my Yami here is the greatest man in Konoha, no amount of women is enough to keep up with him.”
I turn my head to Sakura and we shortly kiss with our lips this time.
This wasn’t pre-planned but it’s a good improvisation by Sakura to keep the flies away.
“It this the men you’ve been glued to Hinata… the clan won’t approve of him.” Neji says.
“Cousin Neji… we will both prove to the clan… our strength these exams.” Hinata answers.
We slowly make our way to the real classroom together with Team Guy and with tTeam Kakashi following us from behind.
The biggest difference from the plot so far was that Sasuke didn’t get his ass handed to him by Rock Lee, but that was unlikely to happen regardless of what we did because Sakura wasn’t in his team for him to try to impress.
As we make our way to class the Hyugas are in a silent confrontation while me and Sakura make small talk with Rock Lee and Tenten, mostly introducing ourselves, talking about our sensei’s and what we’ve done since the academy.
I can tell both Lee and Neji are itching to test me but they don’t look down at Sakura and Hinata either.
Despite being an entire year older than us we look around the same age.
We enter the real classroom 3-1 where the first part of the exam takes place.
After only a few steps I’m hugged from behind by Ino.
“Yami~ what took you so long?”
“Another!?” Tenten asks.
I turn my head to kiss Ino as Team Guy separates from us, seeing the last of the rookie teams approaching us.
Hinata however goes with them to a corner with Tenten as they make girl talk.
“So this means all 9 of us rookie genins are taking the exam. We’ve trained a lot so we’re not going to lose to you.” Kiba says
“I sure as hell won’t lose to the likes of you!” Naruto answers.
As Shikamaru, Naruto and Kiba start making a ruckus that hateful guy shows up…
