Cultivation starts with picking up attributes Chapter 111

Tian Shen stood beneath the tall shadow of the old registry building, his fingers stained with dust and residual Qi from ancient scrolls.

Rows upon rows of jade slips and ledger-bound books lined the shelves, some of them so old their protective wards had long since faded. Dust hung in the air, catching the light like suspended time.

He found it—tucked behind a wall plate sealed by a half-active formation. A fragment of a leyline registry... with alterations.

Three energy nodes had been forcibly redirected, all centered toward one location.

A name written in faded ink glowed faintly— Mirror Pavilion.

He felt a jolt in his gut.

It was a secluded structure often used by guest elders for deep meditation—one that had fallen into disuse years ago. The records said it was destroyed.

But the Qi signals said otherwise.

Meanwhile, Feng Yin and Lian Hua stood within the inner archives of the Elder Wing, accessing scrolls marked only for high council members.

Elder Su had passed her sect token to grant temporary authority.

"Three elder-level stamps revoked."

Feng Yin said, eyes scanning a scroll.

"But only two were reassigned. One left... unclaimed."

Lian Hua’s voice was low.

"And the missing one belongs to Elder Huai."

Feng Yin looked up sharply.

"Elder Huai? But he died years ago in a Sect conflict."

"Or so we were told."

Lian Hua narrowed her eyes.

"I found no burial rites for him. No honorary engraving. Just a vague note—’Fell during outer conflict, body unrecoverable’."

Feng Yin didn’t speak for a long time. Then she said.

"We’re dealing with someone who was here all along."

Their eyes met in a silent understanding. What they were uncovering was no longer just a pattern of sabotage.

It was something older, deeper. A rot that had taken root while everyone else looked away.

Little Mei crept through the Beast Canopies, her fox form light as smoke, tail brushing against roots and leaves.

Her eyes flickered, picking out scent trails most would miss.

She followed the scent of old spirit blood—faint, but present. Three beast cages had been shifted to the lowest pens.

There, beneath the floor, was a hatch hidden with a false qi suppression array.

She hissed and scratched a rune onto it, revealing a hidden passage laced with sigils.

Dark Qi pulsed behind it.

She didn’t descend. Not yet.

She simply smirked and left a trail marker—a shimmer of foxfire that only her companions would understand.

"Found your den, rats."

That evening, the Pavilion brimmed with tense silence. Everyone had returned.

Tian Shen placed his jade slip on the table.

"Mirror Pavilion. The leyline leads to it. Energy flows right into its foundation."

"I found a sealed chamber under the Beast Canopy. Someone’s been storing blood-warped beast essence."

Feng Yin laid down her scroll.

"Elder Huai never died. His records were scrubbed. He still has his talisman stamp—and he’s likely one of the leaders, one of the traitors."

Elder Su leaned forward.

"That’s three major pieces—Qi diversion, beast experimentation, and rogue elder access. This isn’t a rogue group of rookies."

"This is a proper faction, ready to destroy Feilun Sect at any moment."

Lian Hua unrolled a map of the sect. She marked five convergences—each subtly bent, all pointing toward the Mirror Pavilion.

"They’ve built a hidden disease in the Sect’s body."

Elder Su stood, her expression hard.

"Then it’s time the Sect’s brain knew."

They entered the Grand Hall just after dusk. This time, there was no call for assembly.

Feng Yin, Tian Shen, Lian Hua, Little Mei, and Elder Su stood before the Sect Master, who sat in still meditation beneath the Feilun sigil.

His robes glowed faintly, marked with the woven insignias of decades of service and wisdom.

He opened his eyes before they even spoke.

"I understand the ground is restless. Speak out your thoughts."

Feng Yin stepped forward.

"We have uncovered the faction responsible for the leyline corruption, demonic infestations, and the vanishing disciples. It is not a single infiltrator—it is a cell, rooted in the old Mirror Pavilion."

Tian Shen added, "Their structure spans the southern grounds. They have a sealed altar chamber beneath the Beast Canopy. At least one rogue elder—Huai—is active."

Lian Hua unfurled the evidence scrolls— altered stamps, forbidden formation glyphs, blood contracts twisted by demonic Qi.

Little Mei tossed a shredded beast collar onto the floor.

"They’re raising corrupted spirit beasts. Ones who answer to no known taming command."

Elder Su’s voice rang out, steady and clear.

"This is no longer subterfuge. It’s insurgency."

The Sect Master was silent for a long time. His eyes moved from scroll to collar, from each speaker to the next. Then he rose, shattering the stillness of the hall.

His spirit aura surged—not violent, but immense. Like an ocean finally turning its tide. It pressed down on them like the weight of the heavens.

"Then the time for patience is over."

He turned to the back wall of the chamber, where a locked sigil scroll rested. With a single motion, he unfurled it.

A golden phoenix-shaped bird flared into the air, spiraling upward in arcs of divine light—visible from every corner of the sect.

The Sect Master’s voice echoed across the halls.

"Elders! Peak Masters! Prepare your disciples. The Feilun Sect declares war on the hidden faction within."

That night, light blazed across the sect. Lanterns were lit. Defensive wards surged to full strength.

Messages were sent to branch halls. Combat drills began in the training fields. Formation experts reviewed barrier lines. Every sword was inspected.

And the Mirror Pavilion glowed faintly under the moonlight—its silence a mockery of the chaos it had hidden.

Tian Shen stood on a balcony, wind tugging at his robe. His gaze locked on the southern grounds.

Feng Yin joined him, sliding her hand into his without a word.

"And this time, it won’t be fought in shadows."

She smiled—sharp, radiant.

"I’ve been ready all along."

Within the Mirror Pavilion, deep in the hidden chamber, black lotus roots pulsed faintly in the earth. Figures cloaked in twilight robes stood in silence.

A voice murmured from the darkness.

"They’ve declared war."

Another replied, calm and unhurried.

"Good. Then let them come. Do they even know that our roots run deep."

A third voice, hoarse and soaked in corruption, whispered from behind the altar in the Mirror Pavilion’s heart.

"They shine their lanterns, thinking light burns away rot. But we are not rot."

The figure stepped forward. It was Elder Huai—his robes once bearing Feilun’s crest now torn and darkened, stained with blood and ash.

His eyes glowed faintly, not with life, but with the twisted sheen of demonic resonance.

"We are the marrow beneath the bones. The roots they watered with their ignorance."

The chamber pulsed. The black lotus behind him unfurled slightly, revealing a core of flickering embers—congealed Qi taken from beasts, disciples, and the Sect’s own foundations.

Another cloaked figure knelt by the edge of a glowing formation.

"Two more days, and the array will be complete. The mirrored channel will be irreversible. Every strike against us will empower the altar."

Elder Huai’s mouth curled into a cold smile.

"Then let the Sect come. Let them draw blades. We will bleed, yes—but so will they. And their strength will feed our rebirth."

At dawn, Elder Su stood on the highest platform overlooking the Mirror Pavilion.

Behind her, the Sect Master gave final orders to gathered elders, formation engineers, and troop leaders.

"Leave no blind spots."

"If they escape, the corruption will only continues."

Formation stones were planted around the southern quarter. Talisman masters inscribed suppression glyphs into the air itself. Core disciples took up positions, their auras blazing with readiness.

From her vantage point, Feng Yin could see every step taken. She adjusted the sword on her belt and turned to Tian Shen, who was tying a clothe to his forearm.

"You sense it too, right?"

"The energy around Mirror Pavilion is off. Like something wants to be found... on its terms."

Little Mei appeared beside them, her hair loose and wild, dual daggers in hand.

"I scouted the west flank. Found three beast marks. They’re calling creatures through spirit fractures."

Lian Hua landed lightly near them, her pendant glowing.

"I’ve set distraction wards. If they try to flee through the underground veins, we’ll know."

Tian Shen exhaled, the air around him shimmering faintly.

"Maybe We can end this today."

Elder Su raised her hand. The formation stones clicked into place with a low hum.

"We strike at the heart."

From the Sect walls to the treetop canopies, silence fell like a held breath.

Then the Pavilion pulsed—once.

And with it, the earth cracked.

From the Pavilion’s base, black vines erupted, hissing through the ground like serpents.

One lashed upward, tearing through a statue and flinging its fragments into the sky.

The Sect Master’s voice rang out, calm but thunderous.

"Feilun disciples! Strike!"

And so the battle for the Sect’s soul began.
