Cyberpunk: The Magnet fruit Chapter 109

At the appointed time in the afternoon, David and his team arrived at a bypass intersection near Arasaka Tower. They parked their recently acquired vehicle in a discreet spot, waiting for their contact to arrive.

The atmosphere inside the car was calm but expectant. Jack sat in the passenger seat, tapping his fingers on the dashboard, while Lucy was in the back, idly scrolling through data on her holo device.

Within moments, a tall, confident figure emerged from the main gate of Arasaka Tower. Dressed in a corporate work uniform with an OL (office lady) beside her, V strode toward them with her usual self-assured swagger. Her piercing gaze quickly locked onto the vehicle.

Jack, noticing her approach, rolled down the window and waved.

V raised an eyebrow in mild surprise before smirking. Without breaking her stride, she sauntered over to the car, her seductive figure swaying with each step.

She opened the door and slid into the backseat.

"Hey, where did you get this car?" she asked the moment she was inside, her sharp eyes scanning the interior.

Jack grinned, clearly pleased with himself.

"If I'm not mistaken," V continued, leaning back against the seat, "this should be a heavily modified Emperor 740 armored sedan, right?"

"Heh, you've got a good eye, V!" Jack chuckled, full of pride. "Of course, we bought this beauty with our hard-earned eddies!"

"Bought it?" V's expression turned skeptical. She arched an eyebrow and let out a small scoff. "This car isn't exactly something you just buy at a dealership. Even getting your hands on one would cost a fortune."

Jack laughed again and playfully nudged David. "Well, let's just say we have a very resourceful captain. Ain't that right, David?"

David shook his head with a small chuckle. "You guys just love talking me up, huh?"

V smirked but didn't press further. Instead, she shifted her attention back to the reason for their meeting.

"You got what I asked for?" David asked, getting straight to business.

V sighed dramatically and pulled a black duffel bag from her side. "You never waste time, do you?" she said, handing it over. "Here. Everything you asked for."

David took the bag and unzipped it. His eyes scanned the contents:

Inside were the dual pistols "Golden Lady" that Jack had been eager to get his hands on. Alongside them were two silver-gray, kunai-style short blades—Lucy's preferred weapon.

David noted the extra items inside: several firearms, grenades, and other pieces of combat equipment. He frowned slightly and looked back at V.

"V, this is more than I ordered," he said, pulling out a few of the extra guns.

V shrugged, taking out a cigarette and lighting it with a flick of her lighter. She took a slow drag before replying, "Consider it a precaution. You guys are gearing up for something big, right? You never know when extra firepower might save your ass."

Jack whistled. "Damn, you sound like you're worried about us, V. That's touching."

V exhaled a thin stream of smoke and shot him an amused glance. "Let's just say, I don't like making investments that crash and burn before they even get off the ground."

David smirked, appreciating her concern but knowing full well that she wouldn't admit it outright. "Well, thanks for the extras. We'll put them to good use."

He reached into the bag and pulled out the twin pistols, handing them over to Jack. "Here, these are yours."

Jack's eyes lit up as he eagerly took the pistols, admiring the craftsmanship. "Hell yeah! Now this is what I'm talkin' about!" He spun one of the pistols around his finger before holstering them both at his sides.

David then turned his attention to the kunai-like short blades, examining their fine edges. "V, how's the quality on these?"

V took another drag of her cigarette and leaned back against the seat. "Top-tier. AKLIUW nano-blades—some of the best melee weapons you can find in all of Night City. Arasaka tech, obviously. Razor-sharp, practically unbreakable, and designed for precise, quick strikes."

David nodded in approval. "Makes sense. Arasaka's got a long history with blade craftsmanship. If these are considered top-notch even by their standards, then they're definitely high-quality."

He turned to Lucy and handed her the blades. "Here. These should suit you well, especially with that armor upgrade you were talking about."

Lucy accepted them with a small smile. She gave V a nod of appreciation. "Thanks, V. I appreciate it."

V waved a hand dismissively. "Don't mention it. Just another job for me."

David continued rummaging through the bag, ensuring everything was accounted for. His eyes landed on something unusual at the bottom—a sleek, pink smart pistol.

He pulled it out and examined it closely.

V noticed and smirked. "That's for Rebecca."

David glanced up. "You promised her a gun?"

V nodded, exhaling another puff of smoke. "Yeah. The Arasaka HJKE-11 Yukimura. Figured she'd like something flashy but deadly."

David turned the gun over in his hands, testing its weight. It was lightweight but packed a punch. He could already picture Rebecca going wild over it.

He tucked it back into the bag and looked at V. "I'll make sure she gets it."

"Good." V stretched slightly, cracking her neck before putting out her cigarette. "And speaking of favors, David, I've got something else for you."

David raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"

V leaned forward slightly, lowering her voice. "I might have a line on some valuable intel regarding Arasaka's next big move. But I need a little... assistance in acquiring it. Think you and your crew might be up for another job?"

Jack perked up immediately. "Hell yeah! We're always up for a good job—especially if it means screwing over Arasaka."

David smirked. "Let's hear the details first."

V chuckled. "That's what I like about you, David. Always thinking before acting." She glanced at Lucy and Jack before adding, "Meet me at Afterlife tonight. I'll fill you in there."

David nodded. "We'll be there."

V gave them one last nod before opening the car door and stepping out. As she adjusted her jacket, she threw one last remark over her shoulder. "Try not to get yourselves killed before then."

Jack laughed. "No promises!"

With that, V disappeared into the bustling streets, leaving David and his crew with their newly acquired weapons and the promise of another high-stakes mission ahead.

David looked at Jack and Lucy, a knowing grin forming on his lips. "Looks like we're not done yet."

Lucy smirked. "When are we ever?"

Jack leaned back in his seat, twirling one of his new pistols. "Well, if it means we get to put these babies to use, I say bring it on."

David chuckled, started the car, and drove off into the neon-lit chaos of Night City.

Tonight, they had a meeting at Afterlife. And something told him this next job was going to be even bigger than the last.
