The woman standing in the yellow jacket on the second-floor corridor was none other than Rogue, the legendary owner of Afterlife Bar!
Earlier, when David confronted Oris and the Scavengers, he had already noticed her presence. This wasn't a coincidence. David had calculated every move he made, ensuring the real reason for the altercation with the Scavengers was clearly communicated for everyone to hear.
It wasn't just to rile up the crowd—it was to let Rogue, the owner of the bar, know he wasn't the instigator. This chaos stemmed from the Scavengers' unethical behavior in her establishment.
However, what David hadn't anticipated was Rogue's lack of immediate action. Instead of intervening, she leaned on the railing, smoking and sipping her drink as if this had nothing to do with her.
If David hadn't recognized her, he might have found it impossible to believe that a bar owner would react so nonchalantly to trouble breaking out in her own establishment.
The scene remained tense.
"David, are you out of your mind?" Claire hissed, pulling his arm. "The most important thing right now is survival, not getting involved in this insanity!"
Her voice was laced with frustration and fear.
"Hah! A kid like you, trying to make a name for himself in Night City?" Delais, the leader of the Beast Gang, sneered. "You'll be lucky if you survive the night, let alone make it big."
Delais stepped closer, his imposing figure making Claire flinch. His mocking tone was laced with malice, and the tension in the air thickened.
Jack, standing protectively by David's side, barked back, "Shut your damn mouth, Delais! Keep talking, and I'll blow your brains out right here and now!"
Delais chuckled darkly, his eyes narrowing. "Oh? And what then? You think you and that little punk can walk out of here alive after pulling the trigger?"
He waved his hand casually.
Instantly, every member of the Beast Gang in the bar pulled out their weapons, ranging from pistols to machine guns, all aimed squarely at David, Jack, and Claire.
"Let go of our boss!"
"Put the gun down, or you'll be leaving here in a body bag!"
"You're messing with the wrong gang!"
The Beast Gang members' feral threats echoed through the bar. Their savagery and willingness to fight to the death were notorious.
David's expression hardened.
Jack, holding the Arasaka JKE-X2 Kenshin, hesitated for a moment. "Damn it, I should've gotten an Arasaka heavy machine gun instead of this damn pistol! What was I thinking?"
The guests in the bar quickly moved to the edges of the room, not wanting to get caught in the crossfire. The security staff tried to intervene, shouting at the Beast Gang to stand down, but their warnings were ignored.
On the second floor, Rogue finally sighed, shaking her head.
"Trouble in my bar again," she muttered, taking a long drag of her cigarette. "Guess it's time to clean up this mess."
She flicked her cigarette butt aside and strode down the stairs.
Rogue's voice cut through the tension like a blade. "Is this how you show respect when you're drinking in my bar?"
Her tone was calm yet commanding, each word laced with an invisible authority that silenced the chaos in an instant.
All eyes turned toward Rogue as she descended the stairs. The mercenaries in the bar whispered in hushed, reverent tones.
"Oh my god, it's Rogue herself!"
"Damn, the living legend is here. She's even more intimidating in person."
"I heard she only comes out when things get really serious. We're about to see something big!"
Excitement and fear rippled through the crowd.
David's tense demeanor softened as a faint smile appeared on his face. "Finally," he murmured.
Rogue's presence changed everything.
The Beast Gang might be reckless and bloodthirsty, but even they wouldn't dare challenge Rogue in her own domain. For now, the situation was defused, and Jack, Claire, and David were safe.
Delais gritted his teeth but said nothing as Rogue approached, her sharp gaze making even the hardened leader of the Beast Gang falter.
"Alright," Rogue said as she reached the center of the room, her piercing eyes scanning the scene. "Who's going to explain to me why my bar is turning into a warzone?"
David stepped forward without hesitation.
