Most of the Miao people from the Southeast Mountain Village live on the southeast side of Black Mountain, while the depths of Black Mountain are located in the northwest, dominated by rainforests, with gnarled old trees and untrimmed bushes for decades densely occupying one’s field of view.
The Miao people only go to the back of the mountain to chop wood or hunt. Yezi, since a young age, followed Mama often to the ancient forest of Black Mountain and was very familiar with the mountaintops and terrain.
"Aren’t you afraid of the Great Wizard’s insect poison? Yezi called a stop, and "Little Pig" peeked out of his arms, all of its fiery red "chicken" feathers stood on end. On a huge old tree that required two people to wrap their arms around, crawled a black centipede the size of a thumb. Yezi, without flinching, put all his strength into the machete, and with a flash of the blade, the centipede was split in half.
"Little Pig" happily flew out, leisurely pecking the dead centipede into its stomach.
Xiao Xian swallowed her saliva, her little face looking a bit worse for wear. "What’s up, got scared? Not everything in the mountains is ; there are also many good things, even melodious oriole birds. How about I catch one for you to play with?" Yezi chuckled, girls are just girls, they might say they aren’t scared, but deep down they still mind these dark poisonous creatures.
As they climbed higher up the mountain, Yezi chose the path leading to the shady areas, as Mama had said, gu insects like shady, walking towards the damp and shaded places was undoubtedly correct.
The two kids walked a bit further when suddenly the trail of underbrush blocking the way vanished. Upon a closer look, it appeared as if someone had removed them with a sharp knife. Yezi found it strange, the path he took was seldom walked even by the people of the Miao Village, the Great Wizard looking for gu insects definitely wouldn’t have cleared the underbrush.
A shrill bird cry came through, Yezi frowned, "Little Pig" alerted, retracted into Yezi’s arms.
"Be careful," just as the reminder reached Yezi’s ears, a sharp metallic scraping swept through the air, and a large net suddenly dropped from the sky, the mesh was dense and intertwined with iron thorns, guaranteed to cause bloody wounds if it hooked onto the skin—an elaborate trap. Even though Yezi was used to walking in the woods, he couldn’t have anticipated this sudden net appearing out of nowhere.
The net came too quickly, Yezi simply couldn’t dodge in time, all he could think about was protecting Xiao Xian. As he turned to shield her, he ended up lunging at empty air. Instead, someone gently lifted him by the collar, his body floated upwards effortlessly, his toes left the ground, and all of a sudden, the net and the surrounding trees were beneath him. When he regained his senses, he was already in a tall tree.
"Hold on tight," Yezi finally realized, the person who reminded him and brought him to the tree was none other than Zhu Xiaoxian. Xiao Xian chose the tallest nearby horse tail pine, her face paler than before. The net had come too suddenly, without thinking, she used the Cloud Ascension Technique to save Yezi.
Ahead in the dense forest, several figures appeared, their attire not belonging to the people of Dongnan Miao Village.
"They are poachers coming from the foot of the mountain," the hill behind Dongnan Miao Village is a treasure land. In order to prevent all types of poaching and illegal logging, the Great Wizard publicly claimed that the hill nurtured poisonous snakes. Last month, some people bravely entered the mountain, found no poisonous snakes as the rumors suggested, but instead many beautiful ornamental birds and sneaked into the mountain with a group of people.
"These people are really wicked, using nets with barbs, all animals will suffer," Xiao Xian looked down from the tree, as the iron net was drawn, not only the bushes but small animals and birds were dragged out, causing birds to fly in panic and animals to scatter all over, with blood and feathers scattered everywhere.
