Darkstone Code Chapter 93

Profit moves people, but legal windfalls are even more enticing.

One buy and one sell can yield profits of thousands, sometimes tens of thousands. Initially, some may hold onto their stance and not participate, but when everyone starts going crazy for the profits, some people’s positions will begin to waver gradually.

Watching others enjoy prosperity is not a pleasurable thing. When people walk into an unfamiliar restaurant, it’s highly probable due to two reasons: the aroma wafting out makes it irresistible, or the advertisement on the glass window makes the food look tempting.

Interests are similar. Watching others join in the wealth feast can be quite distressing because all they need to do is reach out, and they can do the same thing. They’ll persuade themselves.

Prices continue to rise, heating up the atmosphere on site. Eventually, the price for this apartment settled at twenty-seven thousand seven hundred fifty, exceeding Lynch’s expectations by two thousand. He initially thought the limit would be around twenty-five thousand.

After all, the audience for this second-hand goods auction is not the Middle Class, who can casually take out a sum of money. Ninety-nine percent here are poor, with some having savings possibly less than two thousand, but they gave Lynch a surprise.

The biggest surprise was Wood, whose face flushed as he actively left his position and ran over to Richard. The two lowered their heads, chatted for a while, with Richard giving Wood a punch, then hugging his neck and thoroughly ruffling his hair.

Wood, the promising young fellow, grinned with teeth showing. His relationship with Richard seemed great.

Six thousand seven hundred twenty of profit, Lynch promised to split it with him equally, meaning Wood simply sat here, calling out a few words into the microphone, and earned himself three thousand three hundred sixty. Adding the previous dividends, his day’s income had surpassed half a year’s undercover salary.

This is just one auction in a month’s series, and there are four such auctions every month. He dares not expect every one to be so lucky, but believes even at worst, he’ll earn a fraction.

Indeed, Richard’s words were true. Now he just wants to share his joy and show off a little.

Finally, he raised his head to see Lynch, and his excited expression slightly calmed. He also realized he wasn’t a Salesperson; he was undercover.

This made his emotions start to recede. He slightly bowed to Lynch, who responded with an encouraging smile.

Meanwhile, Ferrari was chatting with Lynch. When he learned about Lynch’s promise to the Salesperson to split profits on products above the profitable line, he simply couldn’t believe his ears.

"That young fellow looks thrilled. Can you reveal how much he made from this deal?" Ferrari asked, also noting Wood and getting itchingly curious looking at the young man’s expression.

Lynch glanced at him and, smiling, said, "More than three thousand..."

"Wow..." Ferrari gasped, more than three thousand from one order. "Don’t you think you gave him too much?" He explained his words, "I mean, offering him three to five hundred would have made him grateful for your generosity; why give so much?"

It’s not a diplomatic remark; it’s Ferrari’s genuine thought. He wants to maintain a long-term partnership with Lynch, therefore understanding what kind of person Lynch really is.

This is an excellent opportunity to deepen mutual understanding. Lynch doesn’t hold back, "I once met someone who told me that when you want to grasp all the benefits with your own hands, even your brothers will leave you."

Slowly, he turned his head to look at Ferrari beside him, their gazes meeting in the air. Lynch’s gaze showed no fluctuations, steadfast as a rock, "But if you are willing to share your success with others, everyone will treat you as their brother!"

"When wealth gathers in your hands, others will leave for unmet interests, but when you are willing to split this portion of wealth with them, they will burst out unprecedented enthusiasm."

"We are not in a superior-subordinate relationship; we are partners!"

If Wood heard this sentence, he would exclaim again. It turns out Richard wasn’t blowing smoke, but Lynch hadn’t finished saying all he had to.

It’s a relatively complex game. It’s hard to leave once joined. They continually create wealth legends, making it difficult to return to ordinary life, as can be seen with Richard.

He would rather lie in bed at home than go out to find a regular job. Once these people leave Lynch, they lose enthusiasm for life, only here, under Lynch’s shade, can they witness life’s miracles.

Moreover, Lynch had many more tricks and gameplay waiting for them.

Retracting his gaze, Lynch knowingly remarked, "Actually, looking at it another way, I take away the wealth they earn, it’s relative."

"I’m a generous person, adviser sir; you’ll understand me in the future."

A house and the paper meaning of thousands of profits are enough to heat up the atmosphere on site. The items that follow mainly consist of some used cars, large pieces.

These aren’t cheap items; among them, one second-hand washing machine priced at three thousand nine hundred ninety-nine sold for two thousand fifty.

This contraption was merely something Lynch took when moving goods from Fox’s warehouse; unexpectedly, it sold for so much.

Actually, the buyer isn’t foolish. In the lower-middle street area, laundromats are an unavoidable part of life. Previously, twenty-five cents would wash all clothes, but ever since charging by weight, twenty-five cents wash only a few pieces.

If the buyer commercializes it, charges fifty cents to wash all clothes, his neighbors would definitely be glad to be friends with him.

It was Richard who personally sealed this deal. With an innate Talent and sensitive sense, he impressed Lynch even more as a young man.

The prices at the second-phase auction mostly maintained around fifty to seventy percent of original prices, not particularly reasonable pricing, but transaction prices at fairs and auctions are never reasonable.

As long as there’s competition and the atmosphere is right, people will show sides even they weren’t aware of.

After a ten-minute break, the third phase began, and the host continued in his enthusiastic tone, introducing the third-phase auction.

If a normal auction gives a bottom price and continuously raises, with the highest bidder winning, the third phase operates oppositely.

Each item’s starting bid was the original store price, but in this process, the host continuously called lower bids—that’s right, reduced prices, until someone felt inclined to raise their hand.

This was still a scramble, without personal quoting; as the host said, it had to be fast, accurate, no hesitation.

Maybe just in a blink of an eye, the opportunity would drift away.

"In the third phase, the first item we’re auctioning is an ivory silver cutlery set, let our staff showcase it..." Soon people saw these items, including some enlarged promotional posters, enough for those in the last row to see them.

"The cutlery set’s store price is three thousand eight hundred ninety-nine. When your friends and relatives come, presenting such a set would surely make everyone show envy..."

After a round of boasting how using this ivory silver cutlery could elevate one to life’s pinnacle, the host began an unexperienced round of calling bids.

"Three thousand eight hundred ninety-nine, any hands raised?"

"Three thousand six hundred, slashed three hundred, any hands raised?"

"Alright, it seems everyone has grasped this bidding method, three thousand four hundred..."

"Three thousand one hundred fifty!"

"Two thousand nine hundred eighty..."

As prices got lower, the originally calm crowd stirred. Near four thousand priced things dropped to two thousand two hundred, still somewhat high, but made some realize entirely.

Sometimes, people’s thoughts are simple; if everyone holds back not raising hands, eventually this thing would only be worth one buck.

But if people were that simple, this markdown auction wouldn’t be placed by Lynch as the third phase.

Just as the host called one thousand nine hundred eighty, suddenly a hand raised, quickly followed by more, yet too late.

"Congratulations to this gentleman, taking home the brand new ivory silver cutlery set worth three thousand eight hundred ninety-nine for only one thousand nine hundred eighty!"
