“Sister, brother-in-law, I wish you a happy marriage!” I took the lead to raise my glass. I clinked it with both Nanyang and Jing Ning.
Nanyang raised her glass and took a sip. She said rather proudly, “I’m sorry but I can only drink fruit juices. Pregnant women are not allowed alcohol.” I believed she had told this to everyone she toasted. Even though everyone could see her huge stomach, she felt the need to emphasize it.
I smiled and said nothing. Lu Yan stood to the side and didn’t say anything either.
Mai Qi smiled and said, “I didn’t expect you guys to get married so soon. Nanyang is just so clever and determined! Am I right, Sister Ye Qian?” Mai Qi leaned towards Ye Qian, who maintained a perfect smile on her face.
Jing Ning’s expression darkened.
Nanyang smiled and said, “It is not soon at all. Jing Ning and I grew up together and we have known each other for more than a decade. He is my first love. For me, the happiest thing in life is to be to grow old with your first love. Don’t you agree, Nanxing?”
I nodded obediently, “I do. My sister has liked Jing Ning since she was young. Now, she has gotten what she wanted. Congratulations.”
Jing Ning kept his eyes fully on Ye Qian. He took a step forward and asked her. “Where did you wander off earlier? Why couldn’t I find you?” His tone was extremely gentle.
Ye Qian smiled reservedly. “I was hanging out with Nanxing and Mai Qi. I am most familiar with them of all the people here.” Ye Qian put her hand on Mai Qi’s shoulder.
Mai Qi nodded. “That’s right. Speaking of, our Sister Ye Qian is loved by everyone. Even the flowers bloom when she walks by, I wonder who will be lucky enough to marry Sister Ye Qian in the future.”
Ye Qian smiled and ruffled Mai Qi’s hair. “How could you use your big sister in a joke like that? You are becoming more naughty, this must be another one of Nanxing’s influence.”
I smiled. “Looks like I don’t leave much of a good impression on Sister Ye Qian!”
Ye Qian smiled. “No, I like how direct you are.”
Ye Qian was only talking to us. She ignored Jing Ning and Nanyang even though they were the ones who started the conversation. They couldn’t get in a word edgewise.
Nan Yang forcefully interrupted, “Nan Xing wasn’t always like this. She was very cowardly when she was young.” Then she covered her mouth to giggle. At the same time, she glanced at Li Tian and Tian Ting. The two understood her meaning and turned their mocking expressions towards me.
I said lightly, “Big sister is not wrong. I was indeed cowardly and always bullied.” Li Tian and Tian Ting immediately turned their eyes away. I thought they had forgotten what they did to me. Good, they still have their brains.
Nanyang couldn’t hide her disdain for me but she smiled. “But she is actually the most scheming one among us. She has fooled us all. Sister Ye Qian, you are so smart, are you sure you’re not fooled by her too?”
I shot her a cold glance. “Big sister, what do you mean by that?”
Since she wanted a challenge, then I would give her one. Nanyang shrank back and to my surprise, Jing Ning jumped to rescue her. With a dark face, he uttered gloomily, “Nanyang is not wrong, you are a scheming woman. I have known you for at least a decade already but I never knew that you actually like my 7th uncle. So the reason you didn’t want to marry me is that you want to be my 7th aunt!”
The man couldn’t be more annoying.
I chuckled. “Young Master Ning, you’re going to hurt my sister’s feelings saying things like that. Please don’t act like you really did care about me. I was nothing but a smokescreen used by the two of you. As my big sister said, you two grew up together and liked each other when you were young. I am deeply in love with Jing Tian, I am not ashamed of that. I have to marry him just like my sister has to marry you.”
