Days as a Spiritual Mentor in American Comics Chapter 588

Strange took a deep breath and then sighed, saying, "You know what? I've got a new idea from elsewhere. They use a type of wood and a material to craft a magic wand, which can then be used to perform magic."

Wong furrowed his brows, seemingly pondering the possibility Strange had described. After a moment, he shook his head and remarked, "That seems improbable. Magic does not arise from thin air; it can only come from the origin energy of the cosmos."

"Yet, the human life-form can't use the cosmic origin energy directly, that's why we borrow power from the Demon God."

"Unless the wand you mentioned can transform humans into life-forms that can directly utilize the origin energy, it won't be possible for ordinary people to learn magic."

"What I want isn't to allow ordinary people to use magic directly, but to reduce the difficulty for novice mages in using magic."

"For example, storing the borrowed energy in the wand, and then letting them utilize it. They can then use this energy to study magic tech, without having to wait until they've learned how to store and manipulate energy themselves."

Wong stroked his chin, both pondering and speaking, "If that's the case, it could be feasible. But a wand made of wood..." He shook his head, speaking with difficulty, "I've never seen wood with a strong affinity for magic."

Strange turned to look at the pile of elm, walnut, and peachheart wood, et cetera, next to him. He mumbled to himself, "Alright, that's just Shiller's dream. It doesn't seem to be reliable in reality."

Then, he looked at Wong, querying, "What about metal, didn't you mention that four types of metals have a strong affinity for magic?"

"It could be made," Wong yielded a definite answer, but then he added, "but processing and manufacturing these four types of metals take a lot of time."

"Take the substance known as 'Mithril' in the magic realm for example. It's a specifically smelted silver that needs continuous treatment with magic energy during smelting, and also needs the addition of over 40 types of materials..."

"What's the approximate yield?"

"If all the Grand Mages of Kamar-Taj start participating in the smelting of Mithril now, we can probably get around 50 grams of Mithril in a month."

"That's too little," Strange shook his head, evidently unsatisfied. Wong explained, "When we make magical items, we don't have to use Mithril for the whole item, just the crucial parts."

"For instance, the suspension rings we frequently use, their shell is an alloy of brass and iron, hence they appear gold or brown. Of course, if pigments are added, they could appear different colors. But the actual functioning part is the Mithril and gemstone core."

Wong sighed, "Among these four ingredients, the only one that doesn't require a lot of smelting is vibranium. It also has a strong affinity for magic, its only problem is that it's expensive."

"Recently, I heard there's a new material called 'Molten Steel,' I wonder what its magical affinity is. If it's like vibranium and it's cheaper, that would be great," Wong stated with some emotion.

"Kamar-Taj isn't exactly rich, our funds mainly come from donations given by the World Security Council and super security organizations from various countries, such as S.H.I.E.L.D. and SWORD, they give us money every year."

"Mages are extremely frugal, we are self-sufficient and can even live without human currency. The only reason we need it is to purchase a variety of expensive materials."

The Head Steward clearly had some authority in this matter, his brow creased, his facial features all gathered together, he said, "The Grand Mages are successful and peaceful, but they will sometimes argue about this. Everyone wants more material, but the money is only so much..."

Strange and Wong walked together, beginning a stroll near the lakeside. As they walked, Strange said, "This situation has to change, it's not like before."

"In the past, our magic was cherished. We had to pay a price to borrow power, but now, we have enough magic, but a lack of materials. That's not a good thing."

What Strange was saying was right. To put it simply, it was like when you added more dough, you added more water. In the past, borrowing power from the Demon God was more difficult, magic was scarce but materials were plenty. But now, magic was plenty, and materials were scarce.

Strange walked to the railings by the lake, pounded one of the columns, and said, "Self-sufficiency... we have to be self-sufficient."

"Whether it's Mithril or Vibranium, they're all under human control. What if, one day, these materials are no longer available? Would mages be unable to make magical tools anymore?"

As they walked and discussed all sorts of possibilities, they arrived at the farmland behind the mountain after passing by the lake. Looking at the currently fallow farmland, Strange suddenly had an epiphany, "What types of crops were originally grown in this field?"

"This patch here grows wheat, and there are some vegetables on the side, there are also fruit trees over there, the food we eat every day comes from here."

Looking at his hands, Wong said, "You haven't been here long, so you might not know this, but farming has always been a tradition of Kamar-Taj. The former Supreme Magician, the Ancient One, was actually a farmer. She really enjoyed farming here..."

Stroking his chin, Strange asked, "What about the seeds? What kind of seeds do you use?"

"Seeds? Of course, we use wheat and vegetable seeds."

"Haven't you tried to modify these seeds with magic? For example, infusing them with magic energy or simply enchanting them?"

Wide-eyed, Wong responded, "But... that won't work, right? Can the crops grown that way still be eaten?"

"How would you know if you don't try?"

"And we don't necessarily need to grow things that are edible." Strange looked at the fruit trees in the distance and said, "The wood I got previously didn't react much with magic, which is normal since my inspiration was only a dream."

"They could make magic wands from wood and some strange materials, but we might not be able to. The problem might not lie in our skills, but the nature of the material itself."

"If grown wood is unable to react with magic, what if we make modifications when it's still a seed? Could we cultivate a type of wood suitable for magic?"

Wong shook his head, "I'm sorry, I never studied the knowledge of ordinary people, so I don't grasp this concept..."

But Strange felt that he had thought up a good idea, saying, "That's okay, I know who's good at this."
