If his original intention of spreading fear to every corner of Gotham was accomplished in this manner, Batman suddenly understood why Shiller always showed a look of disdain mixed with pity whenever he raised his fist.
Because, from the perspective of a third person observing Batman beating up Hugo, Batman in this image appeared even more like a mentally ill person than Hugo lying on the ground. Paranoid, gloomy, and irritable - wasn't this a classic antisocial personality?
What would it develop into if this continues?
Batman couldn't imagine such a thing, but he believed that if he continued to follow this train of thought, he would manufacture even stronger equipment, devise even more comprehensive strategies, find more criminals, and then use these tools to deal with them. And then what?
What would he do after he dealt with all the criminals?
Perhaps he would regard everyone as potential criminals, formulate even more plans, always being prepared to deal with them, and even put some things from these plans into practice.
Fighting non-existent illusions is a common manifestation of a mentally ill person during an episode, Batman once read this sentence in a psychology textbook, perhaps written by Shiller.
Batman shook his head, he started thinking about himself in this hypothetical scenario, was he actually suffering some sort of mental illness?
Furthermore, he started thinking, were the endless doubts and the violence that formed from them really necessary? Was that a choice he made of his own free will, or was it a symptom caused by his mental illness?
There's a saying that goes, give a person a hammer and everything looks like a nail. Study psychology, and everyone looks like they're mentally ill, including yourself.
The scene froze on Batman lost in thought, then gradually collapsed. When the scene was switched once more, the layout of the room on stage seemed somewhat unfamiliar.
It looked like a guest room in a manor, a handsome young man sat at the edge of the bed while a thin and small man sat on a chair near the head of the bed.
Victor turned his head and said to Shiller, "This must be from when you met that student from Metropolis called Clark."
Shiller nodded, saying, "This Dr. Taichi, he seems to want to compete with me. Since he's in Metropolis, having him counsel Clark wouldn't be too bad..."
The young man sitting by the bed looked rather worried. He was voicing his troubles, however, Taichi obviously wasn't really listening, he had no interest in the petty affairs happening in the school.
"You're saying you can casually outpace world records?" Taichi looked at Clark, he asked, "What other extraordinary capabilities do you have?"
Caught in painful memories, Clark let his guard down. He directly told Taichi, "I'm extremely fast, incredibly strong, and have a few other extraordinary powers. But I don't know where they came from and they cause me a lot of trouble..."
"Trouble?!!" Taichi raised his voice, "You're referring to these incredibly powerful capabilities as trouble?! Are you mad?!!"
Clark seemed somewhat at a loss, Taichi shouted loudly, "You should be doing something with it! You could even rule this city! Or even rule this country, as well as the Earth! Why aren't you doing it???"
"Why should I do that?" Clark looked at Taichi confused, he said, "Why should I rule Metropolis, and why would I want to rule the Earth?"
"Because you're stronger than them, you are stronger than them all!"
"Why should I rule over them just because I'm stronger than everyone else? I can help them, I can aid them, but I won't interfere with them, because I don't like it when others interfere with me."
"You're indeed a madman!" Taichi jumped down from the chair, screaming, "You could easily have it all! You could have all the Alices in the world, you could turn the whole Earth into a Dreamland! And now you're troubled by these powerful abilities???"
"No, I'm not going to change the lives of ordinary people, because they might not like the rules I set for them. They would be upset, and besides, I'm not going to set any rules. I haven't even graduated from college..."
Clark's thinking was very clear, he was not the type to agonize over a statement for days like Batman. Though he possessed the world's most intelligent super-brain, he often approached things from the perspective of a kind-hearted human being.
Compared to Batman who made a mission out of fighting crime, Superman's position was more about helping others. From his perspective, he only needed to discern who needs help and who doesn't, or rather, to Superman, everyone needed help, they should be helped to the best of his ability.
There was no waver in his core position, Superman could easily outmaneuver villains in Gotham who were all talk. If the scene in the movie happened before Superman, where two boats both had bombs and people from both sides pressed the button, he would only see both sides as victims who needed his help.
As the Joker rambled on, Superman would simply rip the hull of the boat with people on it to pieces, carry it, and run. By the time Joker finished his sentence, he probably would've received more than three hundred punches from Superman.
