Divine Emperor In Another World Chapter 29

Episode 29: The Grave of Eternal Echoes

The stairway seemed endless, spiraling down into silence so heavy it swallowed even the sound of their footsteps. The mist thickened until it felt like wading through water, black tendrils clinging to their skin.

Each step echoed too loudly, as if the abyss itself was listening.

The stone underfoot split apart, vanishing into shadow. Suddenly, they were standing on a glassy surface stretched over an abyss without end. Beneath their feet swirled countless silhouettes—human shapes writhing in silence, each one whispering words too faint to grasp.

Akira’s grip on his katana tightened. “...Feels like we’re walking on the backs of the dead.”

Elira’s violet eyes shimmered faintly in the black glow. She whispered, “...They’re echoes. Fragments of people who were erased by the Labyrinth. What’s left of their souls.”

Kuro’s emberlight gaze swept the abyss. “Then we don’t join them. Stay sharp.”

The whispers grew louder.

Akira... failure... blade without honor...

Elira... crownless... unworthy princess...

Kuro... exile... monster... destroyer...

The voices struck with surgical precision, cutting deeper than weapons ever could.

Akira snarled. “Tch. Just noise.” He pressed forward, but the shadows beneath the glass twisted. From the abyss rose three figures—perfect mirrors of themselves, only darker.

Akira froze. His double stepped forward, face twisted into a sneer.

“You train, you bleed, you protect—yet you’ll always be the sword of someone greater. A servant. Nothing more.”

The mirror raised a blade identical to his katana.

Akira’s teeth clenched. “...Then I’ll cut you down like any other enemy.”

The two clashed, steel screaming against steel, sparks igniting across the abyssal floor.

Elira staggered as her own reflection stepped forward. But this one wore a flawless crown, eyes cold, lips curved in a cruel smile.

“I am what you could have been—Queen of Elaria, ruling with ice and fire. Not by love, but by fear. Your people would bow, not question.”

The crown glowed, frostfire dripping like venom.

Elira’s heart hammered. She whispered, “...That isn’t me.”

The reflection smirked. “Isn’t it? You had the chance. You had the power. You chose weakness. You chose him.”

Her violet eyes flickered toward Kuro. Her breath hitched. For a moment, her hands trembled.

Then frostfire flared in her palms. “...No. I chose strength that doesn’t stand alone.”

The two Eliras clashed, frostfire against frostfire, their wings colliding with blinding force.

Kuro stood rigid as his own echo emerged.

It was him, but cloaked in endless shadows, eyes burning red instead of ember-gold.

The echo’s voice was a low growl. “Why pretend? You’ll become me eventually—the Monarch of Darkness. The butcher. The tyrant. This world will kneel, not because you saved it, but because you consumed it.”

The abyss quaked as the echo’s shadow army rose, skeletal hands clawing at the glass.

Kuro’s jaw tightened, emberblade igniting in defiance. “I am not you.”

The shadow smirked, mirroring his every stance. “Not yet.”

The clash erupted—emberlight against void, each strike sending shockwaves through the Grave.

The three battles unfolded side by side yet separate, each locked against their darker selves.

Akira’s blades struck faster, his breaths ragged. “I fight for my own code—no one else’s!” He cut across his double, but the reflection only grinned. “And yet you’re still second. Always second.”

Elira’s frostfire spiraled wildly, her voice breaking. “I am not a queen of fear! I... I am—” But the crown-bearing reflection laughed, blasting her back with frozen flame. “Pathetic. Even now, you doubt.”

Kuro’s duel shook the entire abyss. His echo fought with every flame and shadow he carried, every movement a mirror. For every strike he made, the reflection matched with equal ferocity.

The masked truth was undeniable: he was fighting himself.

The system flared in his vision.

His reflection’s voice thundered inside his skull. “You can’t save them. You can’t save anyone. Power devours. And you crave it.”

Kuro stumbled as the shadow pressed him down, emberblade dimming under the weight.

Elira’s cry reached him, faint over the roar of clashing flame. “Kuro—!”

Her desperation snapped something inside him. His teeth clenched. His flame reignited, burning brighter, hotter, defying the darkness.

“No. I don’t crave power. I crave freedom—for me, for them, for everyone.”

His blade flared in a spiral of fire and light. “That’s the difference between us!”

He slashed downward, his emberlight severing the echo’s chest.

The shadow screamed, body cracking apart into shards of void.

Akira roared, cutting through his reflection’s blade in a brutal cross-slash. “I am my own damn master!” His echo shattered into smoke.

Elira’s frostfire wings flared, her crown of light overwhelming her mirror’s icy coronet. “I don’t rule by fear. I stand with them!”

Her double shattered, dissolving into shards that fell into the abyss.

The abyss trembled. The glass beneath their feet cracked. The echoes below screamed as if enraged. Then they were dragged down, dissolving into nothing.

The mist recoiled, revealing another stairway ahead.

Akira sheathed his katana, sweat dripping down his jaw. “...I don’t ever want to fight myself again.”

Elira exhaled shakily, frostfire dimming. Her eyes shifted toward Kuro. For a heartbeat, she hesitated—then she stepped closer.

Her hand brushed his wrist lightly. “...You pulled me back again. Even when it almost pulled you under.”

Kuro’s emberlight eyes softened. “We pull each other back. That’s how we win.”

Their gazes lingered. A silence stretched, fragile but electric.

Akira groaned loudly. “Oh, for crying out loud. If you two don’t confess soon, the labyrinth will probably force you.”

Elira flushed, snapping her gaze away. “...Idiot.”

Kuro chuckled quietly, the emberlight in his eyes flickering warmer.

The stairway loomed, darker than ever, dripping with shadow that bled like tar.

Kuro’s hand tightened on his blade. His voice was steady, but deep in his chest, something stirred.

Elira’s frostfire shimmered brighter, steady this time. “Then we finish this.”

Akira cracked his neck, a wild grin tugging at his lips. “About damn time.”

And together, they descended—into the heart of the Labyrinth itself.
