Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Trouble
’Irrational? That’s right. I’m being irrational.’
From the moment she fell for Cassian Jennings, she had lost all reason, long ago turning into a madwoman in everyone’s eyes.
Filled with rage, Cassian Jennings stood up and kicked a nearby table. "Get up," he roared. "I’ll take you home. And don’t ever come to this kind of place looking for me again."
Without waiting to see if she had gotten up, Cassian Jennings stormed out ahead of her.
Watching Cassian Jennings’s retreating back, she could no longer hold back her tears as they began to fall.
’Is it really so hard to be with me?’
Often, she hated it—hated being Amelia Avery. If she weren’t Amelia Avery, then maybe, just maybe, Cassian Jennings would consider accepting her.
At least Cassian Jennings wouldn’t treat her so cruelly.
And yet, just as often, she was glad she was Amelia Avery. Because only as a daughter of the Avery Family was she worthy of Cassian Jennings—worthy enough to even claim him for a lifetime.
’It’s okay, Amelia. Don’t lose hope. One day, Cassian Jennings will be yours.’ At this thought, though her face was pale, she forced a smile and tried to rally her spirits.
「Countdown: Day Four」
Mika Summers was still sound asleep. Then, she vaguely heard the voices of his parents outside and struggled to open her eyes.
When she opened her eyes and saw the man beside her, she froze.
The events of the previous night replayed clearly in her mind.
A blush spread across her cheeks. She smiled to herself and snuggled deeper into his arms, pretending to still be asleep.
Just as she was smiling to herself with her eyes closed, she was suddenly shoved hard, and a chill washed over her exposed skin.
Her eyes flew open in shock. Tristan was awake.
He was glaring at her, his eyes filled with a terrifying rage, as if he wanted to kill her.
She shivered and lowered her head, not daring to meet Tristan’s eyes, terrified that her beautiful dream would be shattered. She cautiously reached for the blanket and pulled it up to cover herself.
Tristan Grayson pointed at her face and snarled, "Get dressed and get the hell out."
"Yes..." Hearing Tristan’s words, she knew the beautiful dream was just that—a dream. It would never come true. Now that she was awake, she couldn’t hope for it to continue. Hiding the disappointment and grief in her eyes, she nodded. She wrapped the blanket around herself, got out of bed, and picked up the jacket she’d worn the day before. After putting it on, she hurried into the bathroom to change back into her dirty clothes. When she was done, she came out and said in a low, hoarse voice, "Don’t worry. I’ll pretend last night never happened. I won’t hold you responsible."
Tristan Grayson’s fists clenched. He gritted his teeth and said sarcastically, "You’d better mean that." ’Pretend nothing happened? Won’t hold me responsible? Good. That’s just great. Saves me the trouble later on.’
"I’ll leave after Grandma’s funeral is taken care of." After saying this, Mika Summers rushed out of the room.
Tristan Grayson didn’t snap out of it until he heard the door slam shut with a BANG.
He glanced at his watch. It was already past ten in the morning. His grandmother had just passed away, yet he had slept with that woman and hadn’t woken up until now.
’Damn it! To think I’d let Mom and Dad’s taunts drive me to do something like this.’
