Chapter 16: Chapter 16 Beat you so hard you’ll call me daddy
The speech concluded, and Old Master Bo mingled for a while; the banquet was nearly at its end.
“Hey! Ye’s followers, are you a pig? Get up!”
A forceful pat on the shoulder woke Ye Xian, whose first reaction was to check if there was drool at the corner of her mouth, “Is it over? Can we go back now?”
“Go back where? Have you even eaten? For the sake of the team captain, Chairman Bao invited us to join the family banquet, let’s go!”
Cary forcefully pulled her up, and Lin Yan handed her a tissue, “Wipe it off.”
There really was drool.
However, Cary wouldn’t have mentioned it, but now that he did, she felt her stomach grumbling loudly.
“You really are bold, sleeping while the CEO was giving a speech, and you were in the front row too.”
“What’s the problem?”
His speech had nothing to do with her sleeping. It wasn’t meant for her ears anyway.
“That’s true, since besides the team captain, Ye’s followers fear no one, there’ll come a time when you’re intimidated by the CEO.”
Ye Xian rolled her eyes, “Warn you, call me a tag-along again and see!”
“I will call, what about it? Ye’s followers, Ye’s followers~”
Cary, shamelessly making faces, provoked Ye Xian to throw punches and kicks, “Believe it or not, I’ll beat you into calling me ‘daddy’!”
“I really don’t believe it, you have such little strength, it’s like tickling, are you even a woman?”
“I think your skin is just too thick!”
Lin Yan coughed lightly to remind them.
Only then did Cary and Ye Xian realize they had arrived at the Bo Family’s banquet hall.
Under the dazzling, luxurious chandelier, an ornately carved European banquet table was set up, with Old Master Bo, the birthday boy, seated at the head of the table, flanked by his eldest son and daughter-in-law, and close by, Tingshen. A bit farther down were Wanze and numerous relatives and friends, all of whom were watching Cary and her antics.
The person who had been drowsy a moment ago was now incredibly alert.
Cary, brushing off the dirt Ye Xian had kicked onto his clothes, scratched his head in embarrassment. Ye Xian also moved her brows, feeling awkward.
Old Master Bo, however, was kind-hearted and didn’t mind at all, “Wanze, the young people in your team are quite lively~”
Perhaps including her was a reason, but Wanze’s expression remained cool and distant, seemingly reluctant to say more.
Because Old Master Bo had never really approved of Wanze, nor had he held high expectations for him; to maintain a good image of his grandson, the details of Ye Xian persistently pestering him never reached Chairman Bao’s ears, hence Ye Xian breathed a sigh of relief.
“Don’t just stand there, take your seats. Today is a family affair; no need to be formal.”
Though Old Master Bo was of advanced years, he remained sprightly and looked very benign, not like someone who would care about family background or ancestry.
Yet Wanze’s seat was clearly on the same level as those of the in-laws.
Ye Xian popped a quail egg into her mouth, her gaze shifting between Old Master Bo and Wanze in confusion when out of the corner of her eye, she caught Tingshen’s sweeping glance and frightened, she swallowed the quail egg whole.
If it had gone down smoothly it would have been fine, but her throat was too narrow and the egg got stuck halfway, causing her to panic. She grabbed a glass of red wine from in front of her and downed it in one go.
“Cough, cough, cough~”
The red wine was bitter, and after a cup, Ye Xian’s face turned red from coughing.
When she looked up again with teary eyes, she noticed that everyone at the table, except for Tingshen, was looking at her.
Cary, delighting in her misfortune, waited to see her embarrassed.
Cheng Jingshu, sitting next to her, struggled to suppress her disgust and silently moved a bit to the side, looking like a starved ghost reborn, with absolutely no manners.
