Especially the manager, who also has a daughter, a university student at that. She thought her daughter was no less than Mabel Quinn, so why did Mabel get so lucky as to catch Mr. Kinston’s eye? Mabel Quinn looked at the manager, showing no anger, but said calmly, "If you’re not willing to help me gather everyone, then I’ll have to call the police directly. When the police come, I wonder how you’ll explain it to Mr. Kinston?"
"Call the police? For what?" the manager was taken aback.
"Something went missing from my room. Tell me, should I call the police or not?"
"Something’s missing from your room, so you blame the servants? What if you just misplaced it yourself?"
"Then we’ll have to let the police investigate," Mabel said as she took out her phone, pretending to dial.
The manager instinctively tried to snatch Mabel’s phone. If the police were called, she would surely be implicated.
Mabel stepped back two paces, avoiding the manager’s attempt to seize her phone. "Even if you take this phone, can you stop me from making a call? Or do you want me to call Kyle Kinston directly in front of you? I have his personal number. Do you think he’ll side with me or you then?"
The manager hesitated. Even though they considered Mabel "out of favor" for now, the problem was Mr. Kinston hadn’t really kicked her out yet.
The manager gritted her teeth and said venomously, "Then you wait here!" She went off to gather the servants.
After about ten minutes, a good number of servants had gathered in the first-floor hall of the servant’s quarters.
The manager intentionally said loudly, "This Miss Qin suspects that someone here is dishonest and stole her things, so she’s here to catch a thief. As servants, we just have to bear being suspected for no reason."
With that, the manager stirred the dissatisfaction among the servants. "Exactly, why suspect us?!"
"Show us the evidence!"
Mabel’s gaze shifted; she spotted among the servants the young maid who had hurried out of her room earlier—despite trying to minimize her presence by hanging her head and staying silent.
Mabel walked up to the maid and said, "Return what you took from my dressing table, and I will not pursue the matter further."
The maid suddenly lifted her head, her eyes flashed with panic, but she denied it flatly, "I didn’t take anything from you, you can’t falsely accuse me!"
"I haven’t tidied my room since you left. Wherever you touched, your fingerprints should remain. Once the police come and collect them, it’ll be very clear," Mabel said.
The maid turned pale and said, "I was just cleaning your room, of course, my fingerprints would be there."
"Cleaning the room doesn’t require opening my dressing table drawers, let alone rummaging through them. How many fingerprints do you think you’d leave inside?" Mabel countered.
