Mabel Quinn found a spot to sit down. She couldn’t handle her alcohol, so she just ordered a few bottles of beer.
One glass of beer after another went down her throat, entering her body, and it felt as if the whole world was in a haze. In this feeling, those worries and troubles seemed to be forgotten.
After about two bottles, Mabel Quinn already felt a bit tipsy, as if there were many things she wanted to pour out to someone, to vent to someone. Half-dazed, she took out her phone and scrolled through the names in her contacts, finally stopping at the name marked "Kyle."
Then, she pressed it instinctively.
A moment later, the other end of the phone came the clear and cold voice, "Mabel Quinn?"
But this voice was almost drowned out by the noise from the pub, so she had to hold the phone up to her ear to clearly hear his voice.
"Kyle... Kinston... hello..." she said, at least she still knew who she was calling at this moment.
"You’ve been drinking?" he asked. She had been drunk in front of him once before, and she talked , stammering.
"Yeah, had a little beer, turns out alcohol is really something, can make people forget a lot of... troubles..."
"Where are you, what’s with the noise in the background?" His voice seemed to carry a hint of urgency.
"A pub is just a pub... I don’t know which one..." she mumbled.
"Mabel Quinn, listen to me, from this moment on, you are not allowed to hang up the phone on me." he said, the anxious tone becoming even more evident.
But, why was he so anxious? She didn’t understand, "If you don’t want me to hang up... alright, then you... tell me a story, and I won’t hang up..." As a child, her father would always hold her and tell her many stories. Thinking of those times, she really missed them...
On the other side, in the corporation, the president with a heavy expression almost hit his head on the desk.
"Mabel Quinn, I’m not joking with you." Kyle Kinston said, not even realizing that his face was full of worry and unease at the moment.
"I’m not... joking with you either... I’ll count to... 10, if you don’t tell a story, I’ll hang up..." she said with unclear speech.
He almost crushed the phone in his grip. This woman, daring to negotiate with him, and she really started counting down.
Caleb only saw his boss’s face change unpredictably, holding the phone tightly. He didn’t know how Mabel Quinn had upset Elder Kinston this time, making his expression so unpleasant.
Just when Caleb was still guessing, he suddenly heard his boss say, "In five seconds, find me a story on the phone, any story will do."
Caleb was bewildered, but still followed his boss’s instructions, quickly pulling out his phone, searching for a story online, and then handing it to Kyle Kinston.
What followed almost made Caleb stumble and fall to the ground. He stared with wide eyes as his usually brilliant and majestic boss actually began reading from the story found on the phone.
