The policeman gave an awkward smile, having already recognized the person in front of him as Kyle Kinston, who had recently come to J City from Falling City. This woman wants to report him? Is that a joke? Wasn’t she the one who made the first move?
"You were the one who raised your hand first to hit someone. If you want to report someone for assault, shouldn’t you first include your own attempt to assault in your statement?" said the policeman.
Evelina’s face turned crimson in an instant.
Kyle said to the policeman, "She instigated a witness to give false testimony, obstructing justice. What charge does that carry?"
"That’s incitement, and for such a case, one could be sentenced to up to a year in prison." The policeman quickly replied.
Evelina was dumbfounded. How... how could this turn into incitement? If she were really sentenced to prison, she would certainly lose her job at the bank. She had just been promoted to deputy director of the credit planning department not long ago and was enjoying a status she had never had before. In recent days, her colleagues at the bank had been eager to flatter her, all knowing she had connections and had been promoted to this position at her age because of a big shot.
Losing this job would be too much for Evelina to bear, not only economically but also psychologically.
At this moment, she didn’t dare do anything to Kyle, so she unleashed all her anger on her daughter. "Well, you little brat, you actually brought an outsider to deal with your own family! Have you been sleeping with this man? Otherwise, why would he help you so much? How many times have you slept with him? Officer, I want to report this man for raping my daughter!"
The policeman nearly spat out blood. This crazy woman actually called Mr. Kinston an outsider and accused him of rape?! If Mr. Kinston were really detained here, the entire J City would be shaken.
"Ma’am, do you even know who he is..."
"She doesn’t need to know anything," Kyle said coldly. "She just needs to know that if she dares to say another word, I will sue her for defamation, and then she can prepare to spend ten years or more in prison."
Evelina shivered, her mouth opening, but the sound seemed stuck in her throat, unable to get a syllable out. Somehow, the look in his eyes made her understand what he said was true and not just a bluff.
