"Sometimes, it’s easier said than done. If one day you encounter the same situation, you might end up taking it out on the kid too."
"I won’t." She said assertively, without a trace of hesitation.
At this moment, her cheeks puffed slightly, with a serious and earnest expression. Her almond eyes were wide open, as if to prove the truthfulness of her statement.
He let out a soft laugh, but there was a hint of sarcasm in his smile, "Then what if one day, you are forced to give birth to a child from a man you loathe? Would you still not take it out on the child? Every time you see the child, you’ll be reminded of the unpleasant past, that man you despise."
"If I truly had a child, I’d either not have it, or if I indeed gave birth to it, no matter how the child came to be, I would love it properly, not treat it so cruelly." She said firmly.
The lazy arc of his lips gradually disappeared. Should he laugh at her for never experiencing life’s hardships? Or ridicule her naivety? Or should he tell her that often what we intend and what we do aren’t the same? Sometimes, thinking about it is easy, but when it comes to doing it, how many people can actually manage it?

Mabel only felt that Kyle’s breathing was slightly heavier, and seeing him press his hand to his chest reminded her of a time when she had seen him uncomfortable. So she asked, "Are you feeling unwell again?"
"Just a bit of chest tightness." He frowned slightly. Because of her words, his heart beat faster; the thought made him chuckle at himself.
"Do you want to stand up and get some fresh air or something..." She hadn’t finished speaking when she found herself pulled into his embrace.
He held her as if he wanted to embed her into his very bones.
She quickly said, "Be careful of your shoulder injury!"
"It’s fine!" he softly said, "Just let me hold you for a while, just for a while."
His heartbeat... it was raging so fast, he almost felt like he couldn’t breathe!
The next day was Sunday. In the morning, Mabel had a long sleep, and when she woke up, it was almost noon.
After freshening up and going downstairs, she saw Kyle sitting at the dining table having his meal.
"Sit down, it’s perfect, let’s have lunch together," Kyle said.
Mabel felt awkward and sat down beside Kyle. The servant quickly set a bowl and chopsticks for her. Mabel ate while glancing at Kyle.
His complexion was no longer as pale as it was last night. Thinking about his strange behavior last night, the way he focused on the TV scenes where the mother abused the child, and how he mentioned his mother wasn’t good to him, she couldn’t help but wonder if... perhaps his mother had mistreated him during his childhood?
Logically, his father was the Kinston Family head, easily traceable, yet his mother had insisted on taking him to stay in K City, avoiding his father, refusing to see him till the day she died.
Was there some misunderstanding between them? Or did his mother actually not want to give birth to him?
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Kyle suddenly said, abruptly raising his eyes.
