Lyra Grant looked completely embarrassed. She had just vented her dissatisfaction with Mabel Quinn to Hannah and the others earlier. Who would have thought things would escalate , and the truth... how could she possibly explain the truth now? Was she supposed to say that everything Mabel Quinn said was false? But once the movie "Sound of the Wind" comes out, won’t everyone see the screenwriter’s name anyway?
"Well... Hannah, let’s just drop this issue, don’t bring it up again. We’re all old classmates, there’s no need to dwell on certain things," Lyra Grant said, trying to smooth things over.
But Hannah insisted on standing up for Lyra Grant, "Lyra, you can’t be so easy-going. The more easy-going you are, the more some people will try to walk all over you. No matter what, I have to get justice for you today."
"No need, really no need!" Lyra Grant hurriedly said.
Some people who were more perceptive started to understand Lyra Grant’s attitude, but there were still some who didn’t, like Hannah, and the former homeroom teacher.
"Alright, alright, as your teacher, I need to speak a fair word as well. Mabel Quinn, what you did is unprincipled. Since you’re graduating and want to be a screenwriter, you should know just how bad it is to steal someone’s work. Only the lowest and most shameless people would do such a thing. I used to have some hope for you, but knowing what I do now, I’m really disappointed. You should apologize to Lyra Grant!"
Little did the teacher know, every word she spoke was like a sarcastic slap on Lyra Grant’s face.
Mabel Quinn looked coldly at her former teacher, hope? She didn’t believe any of that nonsense. "Teacher, do you really know the whole story? Or are you just going to convict me now like you did back then without investigating? Following the crowd is not a good thing. As a teacher, I thought you’d understand this?" Mabel Quinn said seriously, "Back then, I said the novel ’Sound of the Wind’ was mine, and today I’m still saying it! Those who know who copied will know in their hearts."
The teacher’s face looked extremely unpleasant, while many around started whispering to each other. Even students and teachers at other tables, not from Mabel Quinn’s high school class, noticed the situation here.
"Mabel Quinn, what a waste of a college education for you to disrespect your teachers !" the teacher exclaimed angrily.
"I respect teachers who can distinguish between right and wrong, who are impartial and fair," Mabel Quinn replied.
While they were speaking, Mabel Quinn’s phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID; it was Kyle Kinston calling, so she picked it up.
"How much longer until you’re done eating over there?"
"Almost done," Mabel Quinn said. Before she could say much more, Hannah was already shouting from the side, "Mabel Quinn, you really are someone with a mother but no father to teach you! No wonder your dad died early. If he were alive, he’d probably be angry to death by you! Even your mother slapped you in front of everyone back then, and now you still shamelessly deny the plagiarism. You’ve got no shame!"
Mabel Quinn’s face suddenly darkened, her gaze locked on Hannah. If at first she didn’t take Hannah’s insults too seriously, now Hannah’s words had definitely crossed a line for her.
"Trouble?" Kyle Kinston’s voice came through the phone.
