Mabel Quinn walked into the studio, slowly approaching Daniel Harris. Her footsteps seemed to alert him, and his eyelashes trembled slightly before his eyelids slowly opened.
In that moment, Mabel felt as if her heart had taken a heavy blow. His eyes, as beautiful as ever, but in those eyes, there was nothing he could see.
Even though she was standing right in front of him, even though her image was reflected in his pupils, there was no focus in his eyes.
This feeling... it was like when she was a child, standing in front of her brother Ming. He looked at her, but could not see her.
Her hand involuntarily waved in front of him, just like when she was a child, wanting to confirm that such beautiful eyes truly couldn’t see anything?
His hand suddenly grabbed her wrist. It made her eyes involuntarily well up, just like back then, he had grabbed her wrist with such sharpness it was hard to believe he was blind, and now it was still the same.
But the moment he held her wrist, his face’s previous cold disdain turned into a sort of urgency, "Who is it? Who are you?" The touch was so familiar, reminding him of that person.
But was it possible? He had already told that person not to see him again, especially since he was still in Han Garden now. Was it because he missed her so much that he had such an illusion, but the touch was so familiar and real.
"It’s me." Mabel took a deep breath and said.
Just those two words made Daniel Harris’s body tremble suddenly, and a shocked expression appeared on his face. "Mabel? Is it really you? Why are you here?"
"I came to see you. I heard you were discharged yesterday and came straight back to Han Garden," she said, her gaze also falling on the painting he held in his arms.
That was... the painting she had accidentally stepped on before and had bought as a compensation. Mabel was surprised and hadn’t expected that the painting Daniel was holding just now turned out to be this one.
"Yes, I returned to Han Garden; perhaps I will spend the rest of my days in this courtyard." He muttered softly.
"Can you let go of my hand first?" She bit her lip slightly and said. He was holding her so tightly that she found it difficult to move even a little.
His hand trembled slightly, and eventually, his fingers slowly released, seemingly with reluctance and remorse. Every finger seemed to become extremely heavy. And as her wrist left his hand, it felt as if his heart was missing a piece.
So, this was the feeling of being close yet worlds apart. Even though she stood right in front of him, even though they were so close, it felt as if they were separated by a world, unable to see or touch each other.
"I’m fine, thank you for coming to see me today." Daniel Harris said. The excitement that was on his face had also calmed down, but this calmness carried a sense of emptiness, as if he no longer cared about anything.
Mabel spoke, "I heard you don’t want to have the eye surgery, is that right?"
Daniel Harris replied indifferently, "Heard? Who did you hear that from?" After pausing for a moment, he continued, "Was it my mother who said that? Did she invite you to come to Han Garden to persuade me?"
Completely guessed right! Mabel didn’t know how to respond for a moment.
Daniel Harris continued speaking to himself, "No wonder, I just returned to Han Garden this morning, and you came in the afternoon. So you’re here at my mother’s request, wanting to persuade me to undergo surgery, right?"
