"I’m fine, I can walk." Mabel Quinn tried to respond in the same voice as usual.
But no matter how she disguised it, her voice still sounded somewhat weak.
Daniel Harris, unable to see, was naturally more sensitive to sounds, "What’s wrong with you?"
"I’m really fine, let’s get down the mountain quickly." She said, because of falling down the steep slope, there was no way to return the same way now, they could only take a detour. But on the mountain at night, visibility was far worse than during the day, and the road was more difficult to navigate. Especially now, one had a sprained ankle, and the other was completely blind, making their pace even slower.

Mabel Quinn stumbled, feeling a wave of dizziness, almost toppling over. Fortunately, Daniel Harris’s hand was still supporting her arm, preventing her from falling.
But the next moment, a hand, without any warning, covered her face, and then that hand felt over to her forehead.
"You have a fever!" It was not a question, but a statement.
He could feel the burning temperature of her forehead in his palm, even the skin of her entire face was scorching.
"It’s nothing serious." Mabel Quinn said while pulling down Daniel Harris’s hand, "The most important thing now is to get down the mountain quickly."
"Then the path down the mountain, do you know how to go now?" he asked.
She faltered because they had detoured and deviated from the original route she used to ascend the mountain, so now she was only going by feel and couldn’t say for sure it was the correct way.
Daniel Harris suddenly let go of Mabel Quinn’s hand and crouched down in front of her.
She was momentarily stunned, "What are you...?"
"Let me carry you. You’ve twisted your foot and have a fever now, it would be faster for me to carry you. Otherwise, with your condition, who knows when we’ll make it down the mountain." He said.
"But your eyes are inconvenient. If you carry me..."
"It’s not like it hasn’t happened before, right?" he said. "Back in the day when we got lost in the mountains, wasn’t it me who carried you down?"
Mabel Quinn was dazed for a moment. Yes, back on the mountain, he indeed carried her, and she directed him while they both struggled to get down.
But now, it’s not like back then, "I can still walk, no problem. Plus, your mother has reported to the police at the base of the mountain and called the villagers to look for us. Maybe we’ll meet up with them soon. If we run into any villagers, they should know the quickest way down." Mabel Quinn said.
"Is that so?" Daniel Harris slowly stood up. In her current state, he couldn’t see her expression, nor could he ascertain the severity of her foot injury, her fever, or if she had any other injuries she was hiding from him.
Before, he felt whether he had eyes or not didn’t matter. If those eyes couldn’t recognize the most important person, what was the point of their existence?
But now, he thought if he could see, then in this terrible situation, they would be much better off, and he wouldn’t have to rely on her, useless as he felt.
"Let’s keep going then," Daniel Harris said.
Mabel Quinn breathed a sigh of relief, holding onto Daniel Harris’s wrist as they continued through the mountain path.
