"You... you're joking, right?" Mabel Quinn almost screamed.
"I never joke," he said, gradually loosening his grip on her. His deep, captivating eyes gazed at her once more.
A sense of oppression seemed to descend again. Mabel couldn't help but swallow, forcing herself to stay calm. "Impossible. Even if you are the king of Falling City, there's no way I could be anything to you. From now on, we go our separate ways."
He frowned slightly. "So, there's nothing to discuss?"
Exactly, that's it! She nodded vigorously.
He suddenly leaned down, speaking softly to her, "Mabel Quinn, no one has ever dared to distance themselves from me like that."
His voice was light, gentle, yet it sent chills down her spine. The next moment, Mabel only felt a pain at the back of her neck, and everything went dark as she lost consciousness.
Her delicate body fell limply, and Kyle Kinston caught her, lifting her up horizontally in his arms.
His thoughtful eyes fixed on the innocent, gentle face in front of him as he stepped out of the dessert shop.
Outside the dessert shop, several black luxury cars were parked, with rows of bodyguards standing by. The entire storefront had been cleared, and even the street had been temporarily closed off to vehicles and pedestrians. If Mabel were conscious right now, she would be utterly shocked.
"Elder Kinston," Caleb stepped forward and was secretly alarmed upon seeing Kyle Kinston carrying Mabel Quinn out. As Kyle Kinston's personal secretary, Caleb had been by his side for many years and knew well how terrifying this man could be. He could be laughing and chatting with you one moment and have a blade to your head the next.
But this man was now carrying a woman , and the woman seemed to be asleep in his arms. Caleb had never seen such a sight before.
"Take care of things here," Kyle Kinston ordered lightly.
"Yes," Caleb replied, planning to handle the aftermath later. Meanwhile, Kyle Kinston carried Mabel Quinn into a black sedan.
As the car started, Caleb could see through the window Kyle Kinston's hand gently brushing across the face of the unconscious woman...
When Mabel Quinn woke up, she found herself in a lavishly decorated room, and a young man with a baby face stood not far from the bed.
Mabel sat up, warily watching the man. "Who are you? Where am I?" Her neck still ached slightly, and it felt like her memory had a gap. She distinctly remembered being in a dessert shop with Kyle Kinston...
"Where's Kyle... Kyle Kinston? Uh, I mean that Kyle... Mr. Kinston?"
"Miss Quinn, I'm Caleb, Elder Kinston's secretary," the baby-faced man spoke, "This is Elder Kinston's residence in J City. As for why you're here, Elder Kinston naturally brought you over."
"Where is he then?" she blinked, asking naturally.
"Elder Kinston has many matters to attend to. Does Miss Quinn wish to see Elder Kinston?" Caleb countered.
Mabel quickly shook her head, "I want to go back, could you please tell me if there's a bus nearby?"
She lifted the blanket and got out of bed.
