The sound had barely escaped when many of the people present hadn’t even reacted.
It wasn’t until the woman in the house called out with all her might once more that everyone realized it was not an illusion!
"Li Fu, was that cry for help coming from your house?" someone asked, their expression hesitant.
"Of course not!" Li Fu immediately retorted, but the sudden change in his expression couldn’t fool anyone.
"It must be the old lady making a fuss! I’ll go check it out!" Li Fu could no longer care about picking a fight with Jiang Ning and hurriedly turned to rush home, leaving behind the crowd with uncertain expressions.
Qi Xingzhou still remembered what Jiang Ning had just said. Seeing Li Fu attempting to leave, he subconsciously wanted to step forward and restrain the man but was silently stopped by Jiang Ning.
"Let’s go, follow him and see," Jiang Ning said. She hadn’t expected the imprisoned girl to actually call out for help on her own. This made things easy for her; she now had a legitimate reason to go to Li Fu’s house.
Jiang Ning quickly followed, with Qi Xingzhou close behind.
Watching the two figures, the rest of the people present were stunned.

They actually dared to go to Li Fu’s house.
Many of their neighbors hadn’t set foot in Li Fu’s house for years!
But then, thinking of the scene they had just witnessed of Li Fu being beaten and begging for mercy at the hands of this young girl, everyone felt that if something were to happen, it would definitely be Li Fu who was at a disadvantage.
"That cry for help just now didn’t seem like it came from Li Fu’s wife, did it?" Aunt Zhang spoke up, hesitant.
"I also don’t think it was..." someone else said weakly.
